Manchester United beat Watford in style at Old Trafford to bring the gap to fourth-place Chelsea back to only three points.
United started slowly and Watford seemed to be able to match their opponents, offering hope of a valuable victory for the side in the relegation zone.
But a swift counter-attack by United ended in a penalty when Bruno Fernandes was brought down in the box by Ben Foster, and the Portguese dusted himself down to score his first goal for the club from the spot.
In the second half United pulled away, with goals from Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood putting the result beyond doubt.
They did need the benefit of VAR, however, which spotted an innocuous handball in the build-up to what would have been an equaliser by Troy Deeney, leaving the Hornets frustrated.
