Manchester United ensured Jose Mourinho’s return to Old Trafford ended in misery as Marcus Rashford’s penalty secured a 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
Rashford gave United the lead after just six minutes with a fizzed shot that Paolo Gazzaniga couldn’t beat away at his near post.
However, Dele Alli continued his inspired resurgence under Mourinho when he flicked the ball over the head of Ashley Young and half-volleyed into the corner from close range.
But a careless trip from Moussa Sissoko on Rashford gifted United a penalty, which the England international then converted from the spot to secure a vital three points for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
