Manchester United vs PSG LIVE: Result, latest updates and fan reaction

On target: Bryan Mbeumo fired home the equaliser for Manchester United against PSG in Gothenburg - (Getty)

Manchester United vs PSG LIVE!

Manchester United drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in their latest pre-season friendly on Saturday. Bryan Mbeumo fired home an equaliser for Man Utd - his third goal in two games - shortly past the half-hour mark in Gothenburg following persistent work from Amad Diallo, hitting back after Liverpool transfer target Ibrahim Mbaye had turned in Dro Fernandez’s low cross at the back post to give PSG the ideal start after only two minutes.

United looked sharp in attack and should have won the game as they created numerous chances but were denied by PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, while £35million summer signing Youri Tielemans came on for the final 25 minutes to make his Manchester United debut. Bruno Fernandes also returned from his post-World Cup break off the bench along with Diogo Dalot, while there was an immediate start for Noussair Mazraoui.

Michael Carrick will be concerned by the injuries to Mason Mount and Tom Heaton as United now head to the Republic of Ireland for a training camp and meeting with rivals Leeds at Dublin’s Croke Park on Wednesday, the same night as PSG face Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg. Follow Manchester United vs PSG reaction live below!

Manchester United vs PSG highlights

  • Tielemans makes Man Utd debut as Fernandes returns
  • Heaton suffers hamstring injury after break
  • GOAL! Amad tees up Mbeumo for equaliser
  • Mount goes off injured early in first half
  • GOAL! Mbaye scores inside two minutes

Aston Villa up next for PSG in UEFA Super Cup

18:59 , George Flood

For PSG, another below-par performance after their midweek humbling by Mallorca but they didn’t lose and remain significantly underpowered without some of their biggest World Cup stars.

Aston Villa will hope for more of the same in Salzburg on Wednesday when the Champions League holders and Europa League winners contest the UEFA Super Cup at the Red Bull Arena.

After that, PSG face Lens in the Trophee des Champions before they begin their latest Ligue 1 title defence at home to Rennes on August 23.

Man Utd impress in PSG draw but injuries a concern

18:27 , George Flood

A decent day overall then for Manchester United, who made the worst possible start in Gothenburg after conceding in just the second minute to that Ibrahim Mbaye tap-in.

They could have been two behind in a flash if Tom Heaton hadn’t denied Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but they were comfortably the better team from there on and should really have won the game.

Amad Diallo’s tireless work set up a third goal in two games for Bryan Mbeumo, while United fans will have been delighted to see Bruno Fernandes back and Youri Tielemans sent on for his debut.

The injuries to Mason Mount and Heaton will be an obvious concern as United now head to the Republic of Ireland for a training camp that includes a showdown with rivals Leeds at Dublin’s Croke Park on Wednesday.

They then head to Wroclaw in Poland to conclude their pre-season campaign against AC Milan next weekend, with their Premier League opener coming away at newly-promoted Hull on August 22.

United should have all of Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez and - most intriguingly - Marcus Rashford back in Ireland, plus Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens.

Supporters will also hope to see Benjamin Sesko and Matthijs de Ligt return from injury sooner rather than later too.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:53 , George Flood

Full-time

Unlike in certain other pre-season friendlies this summer, there will be no penalty shootout to follow a hard-fought draw in Gothenburg.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:51 , George Flood

93 mins: The otherwise uncharacteristically quiet Kvaratskhelia attacks off the left for PSG now, drifting beyond both Fletcher twins before firing well beyond the back post.

Time is running out for a winner.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:50 , George Flood

Maguire and Lacey are the only Manchester United players set to complete the full game here.

Zabarnyi, Boly, Beraldo, Kvaratskhelia and Mbaye will all do it for PSG.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:49 , George Flood

90 mins: PSG look particularly vulnerable now down the flanks, though Amass will be very disappointed that his cross sails behind after being released nicely into that left channel.

Into stoppage time.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:48 , George Flood

88 mins: PSG are rather hanging on here in the closing stages as a super curling effort from range from Fernandes just whistles agonisingly past the post.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:46 , George Flood

86 mins: Zirkzee’s excellent pass into the right channel releases Dalot, who takes on Nuno Mendes before his stood-up cross from the byline is headed at Zabarnyi by Tyler Fletcher, whose second effort is also blocked.

PSG can’t clear their lines and Lacey eventually thrashes over from a tough angle.

Manchester United are finishing strongly in Gothenburg.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:43 , George Flood

83 mins: Difficult to know at first if that was a shot or a cross from Fernandes, but the lack of power on it very much suggested the latter - which the replays back up.

Great play from Tielemans to turn and pick out the Portuguese with an inventive strong pass with the outside of the boot.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:41 , George Flood

81 mins: Close to a second Manchester United goal as Fernandes rolls the ball towards the back post, but Tyler Fletcher can’t get there in time.

I think that was Tielemans who picked out the Red Devils captain with a sharp pass through the lines.

Less than 10 minutes to play in Gothenburg, where Tyler Fletcher’s cross intended for Zirkzee was also cut out.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:38 , George Flood

78 mins: PSG are seeing plenty of the ball at the moment but can’t find a way through this resolute Manchester United defence, who stand up well to the challenge posed by Nuno Mendes and Kvaratskhelia down their right-hand side.

Mee still hasn’t had a save to make since replacing the injured Heaton at the start of the second half.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:35 , George Flood

75 mins: Maguire bursts forward and tests Safonov, who is now being withdrawn by Luis Enrique to another chorus of boos.

He is replaced in the PSG goal not by Lucas Chevalier, but rather teenager Alessandro Longoni.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:33 , George Flood

73 mins: Zirkzee is fine to continue, contained by two PSG defenders as he tries to get a shot away from an awkward angle inside the box.

The pro-United crowd have quickly taken to booing Safonov, now ironically cheering as he slices a clearance into touch.

Pantomime stuff now in Gothenburg.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:31 , George Flood

71 mins: What on earth is Safonov doing there?!

He comes racing miles out of his box and wipes out Zirkzee, leaving PSG in all sorts of trouble.

Jack Fletcher - on for Amad - declines to pull the trigger from near halfway and instead plays the ball to Lacey, who eventually has an effort deflected wide.

About as unorthodox as it gets from Safonov, who did get the ball with a wild flying header.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:28 , George Flood

68 mins: There is no flow to this game at all at the moment with so many changes.

A confidence booster for Mee as he comfortably claims a cross into the Manchester United six-yard box.

Now Yoro makes a key intervention to thwart PSG, who have a corner.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:25 , George Flood

65 mins: A correction to that - it is actually Dorgu who made way for Fernandes, not Lacey.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:24 , George Flood

63 mins: Carrick responds to that quickly with some key changes of his own.

Tielemans is on for his Manchester United debut in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes also introduced for his first appearance of pre-season.

Amass and Zirkzee are also sent on.

Off go Shaw, Santos, Lacey and Mbeumo.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:21 , George Flood

61 mins: Here come the cavalry for PSG, with Luis Enrique introducing all of Nuno Mendes, Marquinhos, Vitinha and Joao Neves for the final half an hour.

Off go Koukaba, Pacho, Dro Fernandez and Mayulu.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:18 , George Flood

60 mins: Mee is at full stretch as Ndjantou cuts in off the left for PSG and curls an effort into the side netting.

He had that covered.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:18 , George Flood

58 mins: Beraldo is a lucky man for PSG as he becomes the latest player to be caught in possession sluggishly by Amad, who is harshly penalised.

A number of PSG changes look to be coming now as we approach the hour mark at Ullevi.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:16 , George Flood

56 mins: A brilliant reception from this strongly pro-Manchester United crowd in Gothenburg as new signing Tielemans is sent down the touchline to warm up.

His debut looks to be imminent.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:14 , George Flood

54 mins: Suddenly Mbeumo comes alive once more following another brilliant long pass from Maguire as he cuts inside, shifts the ball into a bit of space before powering an effort on target that is saved wonderfully by Safonov.

Now Lacey’s mishit cross balloons behind and Amad just can’t pick out the run of Dalot as Manchester United ratchet up the tempo once again.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:11 , George Flood

52 mins: Nothing to test Mee so far during what has been a notably quiet start to this second half.

Not sure at all about these Boly throw-ins for PSG.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:07 , George Flood

49 mins: Heaton makes his way off gingerly and has a quick word with Carrick before going straight down the tunnel.

Mee enters the fray.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:06 , George Flood

A second injury blow for Manchester United early in the second half, with Heaton coming racing out to make a clearance ahead of Yoro and Mbaye.

He immediately clutches at his right hamstring and is now sat down on the pitch.

The 40-year-old won’t be able to continue as Dermot Mee prepares to come on.

United’s goalkeeper shortage gets even worse still.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:04 , George Flood

Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot are both coming on for the second half for Manchester United in defence.

Heaven and Mazraoui make way.

Ayari is off in PSG’s only change, with Quentin Ndjantou coming on.

Back under way.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

17:02 , George Flood

Here is that equaliser from Bryan Mbeumo, set up brilliantly by Amad Diallo...

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

16:52 , George Flood

A shocking start from Manchester United in Gothenburg as they conceded to Liverpool transfer target Ibrahim Mbaye’s second-minute tap-in, which was followed quickly by Tom Heaton denying Khvicha Kvaratskhelia a second.

However, they have been very good since then, swarming all over PSG for that final 15 minutes or so of the first half - with Amad Diallo and goalscorer Bryan Mbeumo both looking very dangerous, while Patrick Dorgu has also impressed.

They should be ahead, but Matvey Safonov has made a couple of decent saves, while Amad was also denied a penalty.

How quickly will we see the likes of Youri Tielemans and Bruno Fernandes off the bench?

PSG also have some heavy-hitters to introduce in the likes of Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Joao Neves.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

16:46 , George Flood

Half-time

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

16:45 , George Flood

44 mins: PSG launch their first attack in what feels like an age, with Shaw awkwardly doing just about enough to turn behind a cross intended for Mbaye with the outside of his left boot.

Kvaratskhelia’s corner delivery from the right is headed away by Mbeumo.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

16:42 , George Flood

41 mins: Amad has really turned it on over the last 10 minutes or so, with his low effort now comfortably held by Safonov.

PSG can’t escape their own penalty area just at the moment.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

16:41 , George Flood

40 mins: United will be disappointed if they don’t go into the break ahead here.

Amad does superbly once more but his pull-back just agonisingly misses the run of Lacey.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

16:41 , George Flood

39 mins: United are all over PSG like a rash now as Safonov makes a terrific save to push behind another well-struck Mbeumo free-kick from the edge of the box.

Mbeumo’s cross is then headed back across goal by Maguire and over from close range by Santos, but the whistle has gone for a push by Lacey on Safonov.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

16:37 , George Flood

36 mins: Manchester United should surely have a penalty as Amad falls under the challenge of Pacho as he tries to connect with a dangerous cross into the PSG box.

The referee isn’t interested.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG

16:36 , George Flood

34 mins: A superb couple of minutes for Amad, who keeps possession brilliantly out on the right flank and glides past a number of PSG shirts.

Only some important last-ditch defending by Zabarnyi then keeps Dorgu at bay after Amad’s through ball.

GOAL! Man Utd 1-1 PSG | Bryan Mbeumo 32'

16:34 , George Flood

32 mins: Manchester United are level!

It’s all down to the sheer persistence and determined pressing of Amad, who swarms all over Koukaba and catches PSG’s young defender in possession in a dangerous area.

The Ivorian winger then charges inside and perfectly tees up Mbeumo, who takes a nice first touch before quickly and confidently rifling into the bottom corner.

His third goal in two games.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:31 , George Flood

28 mins: Mbeumo looks to be building up a head of steam on the United counter-attack, before falling under the challenge of Zabarnyi - whom he certainly has beaten for pace.

No free-kick given, surprisingly.

Now Dorgu brings down Boly, with Heaton calmly claiming the resulting free-kick delivery into the United box.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:28 , George Flood

26 mins: A bit of a lull in the game from both teams before Tyler Fletcher pings a fine ball out to Dorgu, whose cross is gobbled up by Safonov.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:25 , George Flood

22 mins: United look dangerous again through the impressive Dorgu, but they can’t test Safonov in the PSG goal for a second time.

I’m not entirely sure what happened with the Mount injury, but footage on social media shows him making his way off very gingerly indeed - maybe a foot issue?

He was in discussion with three members of United’s medical team on the sideline.

Hopefully not another serious setback for the former Chelsea midfielder.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:21 , George Flood

19 mins: Bright from Mazraoui as he accelerates into space and plays a one-two with Mbeumo, who cleverly flicks the ball back into his path.

Mazraoui is then pulled down by Mayulu on the edge of the box, with Mbeumo’s well-struck free-kick beaten away by a diving Safonov.

An injury concern for United now as Mount has to make way. Tyler Fletcher comes on.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:19 , George Flood

17 mins: Thankfully for PSG, star man Kvaratskhelia is now back on his feet and looks okay to continue after that heavy challenge from Heaven.

Maguire makes a key clearing header inside the United box.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:17 , George Flood

15 mins: Heaven scythes down Kvaratskhelia but PSG continue to break and a vital sliding block from Santos diverts Mbaye’s latest effort over the crossbar.

Heaven is deservedly now booked, with Kvaratskhelia still down and in need of treatment.

Luis Enrique was not happy with that.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:13 , George Flood

12 mins: A superb long pass from Maguire releases Dorgu down the United left, with the Dane then beating Boly before his dangerous low cross is hacked away inside the box.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:12 , George Flood

9 mins: They are behind, but United have played pretty well in this opening 10 minutes and are seeing plenty of the ball.

Liverpool fans will no doubt be excited by that goal from Mbaye, whom the Reds are pushing to sign from PSG this summer along with team-mate Bradley Barcola.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:09 , George Flood

6 mins: Better from Manchester United as Lacey beats his man and stands up a clever cross from the byline towards the near post.

But Mbeumo gets his header all wrong and it misses the target.

Man Utd 0-1 PSG

16:06 , George Flood

3 mins: United are being carved apart early on here as 40-year-old Heaton now gets down well low to his right to prevent Kvaratskhelia from swiftly doubling the PSG lead.

Luis Enrique will have demanded a response to that shock defeat by Mallorca and he is certainly getting it so far.

GOAL! Man Utd 0-1 PSG | Ibrahim Mbaye 2'

16:04 , George Flood

2 mins: Well that certainly didn’t take long!

United look nifty in attack at one end before PSG break to devastating effect, Mbaye darting in behind Heaven and tapping easily beyond Heaton into the bottom corner after Dro Fernandez’s cross.

PSG score with their first attack of the game.

Man Utd 0-0 PSG

16:02 , George Flood

We are under way in Gothenburg, where the stands are packed full of red shirts.

PSG go long immediately from kick-off and end up accidentally booting the ball straight behind for a goal kick.

United counter quickly at pace but Mbeumo gives up a foul on former Bournemouth defender Zabarnyi.

Here come the teams

15:58 , George Flood

The teams have emerged from the tunnel at a sold-out Ullevi Stadium, led by stand-in captains Harry Maguire and Senny Mayulu - the latter of whom is just 20 years old.

Regular skippers Bruno Fernandes and Marquinhos are both substitutes.

Manchester United are back in their familiar red home kits today after wearing away blue in their last couple of games, while PSG are also wearing their new home strip that is predominantly blue with that big block of red and white on the front.

Carrick expecting 'good test' from 'unbelievable' PSG

15:52 , George Flood

Here’s a little excerpt from that pre-match interview from Michael Carrick with MUTV...

“It's hard to know what kind of game it's gonna be, but listen, they've had an unbelievable period of time, and they've got a fantastic squad,” he said of PSG.

“So whoever they've brought on the pitch, it'll be a good test for us today.

“Especially because more of our World Cup stars are back in action today, including Bruno Fernandes.”

15-minute warning

15:48 , George Flood

It is a very heavily pro-Manchester United crowd as the fans flock into Ullevi Stadium, where the warm-ups are almost over.

Just under 15 minutes to go now until kick-off in Gothenburg.

Michael Carrick has been speaking to MUTV ahead of the game and is anticipating a proper test this afternoon.

Facts about Ullevi Stadium

15:35 , George Flood

Today’s venue is the 43,000-capacity Ullevi - or Nya Ullevi - Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The ground was originally built for the 1958 World Cup and has hosted all manner of events from across a range of different sports since then.

It is also a big concert venue.

United played IFK Gothenburg here in the European Cup in November 1994, losing 3-1 with Mark Hughes on target.

Among the goalscorers for the hosts that day was Jesper Blomqvist, who would end up joining the Red Devils four years later and win the treble.

Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Joao Neves on PSG bench

15:21 , George Flood

Luis Enrique makes only two changes to the PSG team beaten 3-0 by Mallorca in midweek.

Willian Pacho returns to defence in place of teenager Dimitri Lucea, while 18-year-old forward Adam Ayari replaces Quentin Ndjantou as he joins an attack containing Ibrahim Mbaye and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The returning quartet of Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Joao Neves are all on the bench.

Tielemans and Fernandes on Man Utd bench as Mazraoui starts

14:58 , George Flood

So Youri Tielemans will have to wait just a little bit longer to make his Manchester United debut after being named on the bench by Michael Carrick in Gothenburg as fellow new signing Andrey Santos continues alongside Mason Mount in midfield.

In fact, there is only one change to the team that started the 2-1 win against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm last weekend, with the returning Noussair Mazraoui replacing Leny Yoro on the right of defence.

Otherwise it’s the same starting XI, with Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot both on the bench alongside Tielemans.

Tom Heaton starts again in goal as expected, while Bryan Mbeumo leads the attack once more after his brace to down Atletico.

Harry Maguire is captain.

PSG squad in full

14:42 , George Flood

And here’s PSG’s 24-man squad for today’s game, featuring the key returning quartet of Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Joao Neves.

There is still no Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, Fabian Ruiz, Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue, Lucas Hernandez or Warren Zaire-Emery.

Liverpool fans may be keen to watch teenage winger Ibrahim Mbaye, whom they are said to be very interested in signing before the summer transfer deadline along with team-mate Barcola.

Another Reds transfer target - Maghnes Akliouche - completed his switch to PSG from Monaco this week, but is not involved yet having also been part of the France squad that finished fourth at the World Cup.

Man Utd squad to face PSG in full

14:36 , George Flood

The starting XI will be known shortly, but here is Manchester United’s 22-man squad to face PSG in full, boosted by the respective returns of Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, plus the introduction of Youri Tielemans.

As mentioned, Senne Lammens and Matheus Cunha are ill, while Benjamin Sesko, Matthijs de Ligt and Karl Darlow aren’t ready yet and Manuel Ugarte is a long-term injury absentee.

Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez will all join up ahead of Wednesday’s historic clash with rivals Leeds at Croke Park in Dublin.

Goalkeepers: Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee, Fred Heath

Defenders: Harry Amass, Dan Armer, Patrick Dorgu, Diogo Dalot, Ayden Heaven, Harry Maguire, Noussair Mazraoui, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro

Midfielders: Bruno Fernandes, Jack Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher, Mason Mount, Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans

Forwards: Amad Diallo, Shea Lacey, Bryan Mbeumo, Joshua Zirkzee

Man Utd short on goalkeepers as Lammens and Darlow miss out

14:24 , George Flood

Despite post-World Cup returnees strengthening their squad in some areas, Manchester United remain so short on goalkeepers for a tough assignment against PSG this afternoon.

The Atletico Madrid game also came too soon for first-choice stopper Senne Lammens, who would have been expected to start today before being ruled out through illness, along with Matheus Cunha.

Free agent signing Karl Darlow is not yet available after undergoing a minor procedure towards the end of last season during his time at Leeds, while Altay Bayindir joined Spanish side Celta Vigo on loan yesterday and this morning came confirmation of Radek Vitek’s permanent switch to Middlesbrough that could be worth as much as £14m.

It means that 40-year-old third-choice ‘keeper Tom Heaton should start today for the third time already this summer, backed up by Dermot Mee and 18-year-old Fred Heath.

15-year-old JJ Gabriel drops out after senior Man Utd debut

14:13 , George Flood

Manchester United fans will no doubt be disappointed that there is no JJ Gabriel in the squad today.

The 15-year-old sensation has long since developed a reputation as one of the most exciting youth prospects in England and made his senior debut off the bench with eight minutes against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm last weekend.

However, Michael Carrick is understandably eager to carefully manage expectations over Gabriel, who is said to have featured for United’s Under-21s in a 5-1 friendly victory over their counterparts from Ipswich at Carrington on Friday - along with exciting midfield prospect Jim Thwaites, who also made his first senior appearance against Atletico.

Jaydan Kamason and Ethan Williams are among the other youngsters to have dropped out of United’s senior squad to face PSG, though teenage goalkeeper Fred Heath has been added as a replacement for Altay Bayindir, while Harry Amass, Dan Armer, Jack Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher and Shea Lacey all remain.

Man Utd vs PSG prediction

14:05 , George Flood

Manchester United should fancy their chances of picking up an eye-catching victory here, with PSG still being without a number of key players.

Michael Carrick will hope his squad are building some momentum after back-to-back pre-season victories over Rosenborg and Atletico Madrid, and another in Gothenburg will raise confidence ahead of the new Premier League season.

PSG team news: Four key players return

14:02 , George Flood

Today’s game represents only PSG’s second pre-season friendly of the summer so far after they were shockingly brushed aside 3-0 by second-tier Spanish side Mallorca in midweek.

After this, it’s straight into UEFA Super Cup business as the Champions League holders meet Europa League winners Aston Villa in Salzburg on Wednesday, before taking on Lens in the Trophee des Champions.

Luis Enrique has been boosted this weekend by the returns of captain Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Joao Neves, who have all made the trip to Gothenburg.

However, PSG remain without a host of key players who were involved during the final weekend of the World Cup in Ousmane Dembele, Fabian Ruiz, Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue, Lucas Hernandez and Warren Zaire-Emery.

There is no Achraf Hakimi either.

Bruno Fernandes returns but no Matheus Cunha or Senne Lammens

13:53 , George Flood

Bruno Fernandes will also feature for Manchester United this afternoon for the first time in pre-season after returning from his own post-World Cup break.

The same is also true of Portugal team-mate Diogo Dalot and Morocco defender Noussair Mazraoui, while Brazil forward Matheus Cunha was also back at Carrington this week.

However, Cunha - along with Youri Tielemans’ fellow Belgian international Senne Lammens - has not made the trip to Gothenburg due to illness, with both players expected to return to the squad for their training camp in the Republic of Ireland next week.

Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez should all do likewise after their respective World Cup exertions, though United remain without Benjamin Sesko, Karl Darlow, Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte due to injury.

Man Utd team news: Youri Tielemans set for debut

13:47 , George Flood

Youri Tielemans is set to make his Manchester United debut in Gothenburg this afternoon.

The £35m summer signing from Aston Villa returned to training at Carrington last week following a post-World Cup holiday in the aftermath of Belgium’s run to the quarter-finals in North America, but the meeting with Atletico Madrid came too early.

However, he is expected to play today after being included in Michael Carrick’s 22-man travelling squad named on Friday.

United fans could even catch an early glimpse of a potential midfield pairing with fellow new recruit Andrey Santos.
