Manchester United vs Liverpool OFF as fan invasion forces Premier League postponement

The English Premier League clash between Manchester United and Liverpool has been called OFF after fan protests saw the stadium invaded.

A group of supporters had gathered outside Old Trafford to voice their discontent with the Glazer family, who gained control of the club in a leveraged buyout in 2005.

Most of the financing for the deal was secured against club assets, with Manchester United fans accusing the owners of taking money out of the club and overseeing a decline.

Protests have been ongoing ever since the takeover, with some disaffected fans even forming their own club, FC United of Manchester.

And the Red Devils signing up to join a European Super League, which was later scrapped, caused anger to boil over.

A group of fans gathered outside the team hotel and Old Trafford before Sunday's game against Liverpool.

And dozens of fans managed to breach security and make their way onto the pitch.

They were eventually cleared by security but a smaller group of fans were later seen in the stands.

The two teams were still at their respective hotels at that point and the proposed 4.30pm kick-off was put back to try and clear protestors.

But at around 5.30pm it was decided that the match could not go ahead as planned, with the teams entering talks with the Premier League to play at a later date.

It means Manchester City will have to wait to claim the title, which they'd have secured had their city rivals lost to Liverpool.
