Manchester United vs Liverpool in doubt after furious fans storm Old Trafford in anti Glazer protest

Manchester United's clash with Liverpool could be called off after fans stormed the Old Trafford pitch.

Supporters broke into the stadium on Sunday in protest at the Glazer family's ownership of the club.

Fans were furious at the owners' attempts to drag the club into the now collapsed European Super League and initially gathered outside the stadium ahead of the Premier League showdown.

But incredible footage and images show masses of punters making their way into the ground and protesting on the grass.

The teams have yet to arrive for the match and United have hung back at their Lowry Hotel pre-match base with both teams unwilling to leave their accommodation until they are certain the stadium and perimeter are secure.

The huge scale demonstration follows fans also storming the club's Carrington training ground in the wake of the Super League breaking down.

12 of Europe's richest clubs - including United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal - had attempted to force through a breakaway closed shop competition, only to be forced into humiliating climb downs in the face of an angry backlash.

United now face a struggle to get the fixture played despite the crowd being cleared from inside the stadium.

Thousands have lingered on outside and Sky Sports claim it's still unclear whether the match will be able to go ahead.
