Manchester United vs Leeds - LIVE!
Manchester United produced an emphatic statement on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season as they thrashed rivals Leeds 5-1 at Old Trafford.
A capacity crowd back inside the Theatre of Dreams witnessed a second-half demolition as Bruno Fernandes notched a hat-trick and Paul Pogba laid on four assists in a dream start to the 2021/22 campaign for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, who finished a distant second behind champions Manchester City in the top-flight last term.
United had only led 1-0 at half-time in Saturday’s early kick-off courtesy of Fernandes, but Mason Greenwood quickly restored their advantage after a sublime strike from Leeds full-back Luke Ayling had briefly levelled proceedings.
The Red Devils finally confirmed the £42m arrival of France defender Raphael Varane from Real Madrid on a four-year contract ahead of kick-off, while England winger Jadon Sancho made his competitive debut off the bench in the second half.
