Amorim reveals how Sesko can improve Cunha and Mbeumo
17:14 , Alex DakersManchester United boss Ruben Amorim believes summer arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo will be “so much better” alongside Benjamin Sesko.
The newly-signed attacking trio, together with teenaged left-back Diego Leon, were paraded in front of the Old Trafford faithful for the first time on Saturday ahead of the Red Devils’ final pre-season outing against Fiorentina.
Cunha and Mbeumo started the match as Amorim’s dual No10s, the positions they are most likely to occupy on a regular basis, but were unable to find a winner for their new side.
Even with some promising signs, Amorim believes his new stars have much more to give.

FT: Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:38 , Alex DakersWe remain level at the full-time whistle after a goalless second half at Old Trafford.
Stay with us for some post-match reaction and a full report of this afternoon’s action!
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:35 , Alex Dakers87min: This next substitution hands the Old Trafford crowd another chance to give David de Gea a warm ovation.
The Fiorentina goalkeeper was welcomed back with cheers ahead of kick-off, made a few smart stops to keep his side in the game, and goes off to more applause on his first return to this ground since leaving two summers ago.
He applauds the crowd in return, and is replaced by Tommaso Martinelli.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:32 , Alex Dakers84min: And another change for Manchester United sees Mason Mount withdrawn after a solid shift up front.
The former Chelsea man did plenty of running this afternoon, and is applauded by the Old Trafford crowd as he goes off for Manuel Ugarte.
That probably means Bruno Fernandes moves forward into the No10 positions alongside Amad, with Cunha shifting up front for these closing minutes.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:30 , Alex Dakers83min: Three more Fiorentina changes now.
Dodo makes way, as does Robin Gosens, the unlucky own goal-scorer.
Fagiolo also goes off for the Italians.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:28 , Alex Dakers81min: Matheus Cunha has worked his way into this tie, and nearly finds the go-ahead goal again.
Bruno Fernandes does well to keep the ball in play and ping it back across the Fiorentina goalmouth, Cunha connects first time but the Serie A side get a block in.
Corner to United, which is played short and eventually lands on Leny Yoro’s head - but the French defender’s effort is collected again by David de Gea.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:26 , Alex Dakers79min: More changes now, this time for Fiorentina.
Jacopo Fazzini and Pablo Mari are brought on for Albert Gudmundsson and Marin Pongracic.
A few minutes before United’s substitutions, Stefano Pioli also replaced Ranieri, Sohm and Dzeko with Michael Junior Richardson, Mattia Viti and Cher Ndour.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:21 , Alex Dakers74min: United’s changes in full are as follows...
Casemiro is swapped out for Kobbiee Mainoo;
Ayden Heaven makes way for Luke Shaw;
Harry Maguire is replaced by Matthijs de Ligt;
and Bryan Mbeumo goes off for Diogo Dalot.
That means a slight re-shuffle on the pitch, with Amad Diallo shunted forward into the right of the frontline alongside Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha, as Dalot takes up the right wing-back slot.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:19 , Alex Dakers73min: A first set of changes are being prepared here for Manchester United, with Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and Matthijs de Ligt all being readied.
Teenaged centre-back Ayden Heaven has gone off after receiving treatment for an injury on the pitch.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:15 , Alex Dakers68min: There have been set pieces and long-range shots aplenty here.
The latest of the latter comes off the boot of Harry Maguire, a rocket of an effort that forces David de Gea to parry it away.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:12 , Alex Dakers64min: United have shown some real threat from set pieces today (while also conceding from one, of course).
This one, a free-kick from deep, goes wide to Amad Diallo, who plays it into the area where Ayden Heaven and Casemiro both challenge for the ball before Fiorentina scramble it away.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:08 , Alex Dakers60min: Matheus Cunha nearly puts Manchester United in front!
The Brazilian has been relatively quiet today but goes for goal from distance and flashes his shot wide.
It seemed to take a deflection on the way through, as the Red Devils have a corner - Fiorentina manage to clear it, though.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:04 , Alex Dakers56min: Casemiro tries to convince Sam Barrott that he’s been illegally wrestled off the ball by Robin Gosens in the Fiorentina penalty box, but the referee is having none of it.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
14:00 , Alex Dakers53min: United have started this half on the back foot but show some promise after a good bit of play from makeshift centre forward Mason Mount.
The move ends with Bruno Fernandes, though, as the United captain can’t keep his shot from range down.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:57 , Alex Dakers50min: Close for Fiorentina!
Moise Kean collects the ball wide on the left and whips a ball into the United area, which goal-scorer Simon Sohm clatters against the crossbar.
A sigh of relief for the Red Devils.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:55 , Alex Dakers48min: Leny Yoro took a hammer of a shot to the face from close range a minute ago and - understandably - stayed down briefly there.
He’s back on his feet now, though, and play resumes.
Second half kick-off!
13:52 , Alex Dakers46min: The second half begins at Old Trafford, with Fiorentina getting us underway after a slight delay while we wait for the pitch-side sprinklers to turn off!
No changes for either side at half-time.
That’s nothing new from Ruben Amorim in pre-season, with the United manager having waited until around the 60 or 70-minute mark before making changes on his team’s last few outings.
HT: Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:36 , Alex DakersWe’re level at Old Trafford as referee Sam Barrott blows for half-time.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:34 , Alex Dakers44min: After a penalty shout from Matheus Cunha is rightly waved away, United’s next attack ends in what looked to be a half-cross, half-shot from Mason Mount.
The England international has been a workhorse so far this afternoon - although largely kept quiet by the Fiorentina backline - and lashes the ball across goal from the right-hand side of the box.
Nothing to trouble David de Gea in Fiorentina’s net too much, but it could have if another Red Devil was waiting in the area.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:32 , Alex Dakers41min: Mbeumo then goes for the exact same corner routine as his last one, playing a one-two with Amad Diallo before crossing into the box.
This time he finds Ayden Heaven, but the teenaged centre-back heads straight into the waiting arms of David de Gea.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:28 , Alex Dakers38min: That’s a few quality deliveries now from new signing Bryan Mbeumo, who looks to have taken a share of dead-ball duties from captain Bruno Fernandes.
The Portuguese is a specialist from set pieces too though, of course, with it his corner that lead to United’s equaliser.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:25 , Alex Dakers35min: Pietro Comuzzo has gone down injured and won’t be able to continue here, so the Fiorentina centre-back makes way for Eddy Kouadio.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:23 , Alex Dakers33min: A slightly speculative effort there from Dodo after some good play down the wing from Moise Kean floors Amad Diallo.
The Brazilian tries to hit it first time on the volley but can’t keep the ball down.
Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:20 , Alex Dakers30min: That equaliser has injected some life into United, and another corner - this time from Bryan Mbeumo on the opposite side - is headed out by the visitors at the near post.
Second time lucky?
Almost!
It’s played short, Mbeumo gets it back and lands his cross on Leny Yoro’s head.
The young centre-back is under plenty of pressure in the box but still puts his effort on target and David de Gea is forced into a superb save!
GOAL! Man Utd 1-1 Fiorentina
13:15 , Alex Dakers25min: Another corner, another goal - this time for Manchester United!
Beautiful delivery from Bruno Fernandes, lots of bodies leap for it and it looks to be Fiorentina defender Robin Gosens who gets the final touch into his own net under pressure from Leny Yoro.
The Red Devils are level.
The Reds equalise 💪

Man Utd 0-1 Fiorentina
13:12 , Alex Dakers22min: That’s better from the hosts, though.
Bryan Mbeumo wins a foul and swings his free-kick into the box and it connects with Harry Maguire’s head, but the England international can’t quite get his effort on target.
Man Utd 0-1 Fiorentina
13:10 , Alex Dakers20min: It’s not been great from any of United’s troops so far, but Casemiro has looked particularly off the pace.
As of the veteran Brazilian knows it, he’s charged way up the pitch to put pressure on David de Gea, but the Fiorentina ‘keeper clears.
Man Utd 0-1 Fiorentina
13:06 , Alex Dakers15min: A wake-up call indeed for Manchester United there!
Some of the pre-match energy around the new signings being unveiled and David de Gea being welcomed back has been sucked out of Old Trafford with that early opener for Fiorentina.
The Red Devils must search for an equaliser now after some questionable defending.
GOAL! Man Utd 0-1 Fiorentina
12:58 , Alex Dakers8min: Simon Sohm opens the scoring for Fiorentina!
The Swiss midfielder is completely unmarked in the box from a corner and slots home easily past Altay Bayindir.
Indeed, Sohm was one of two Fiorentina players in acres of space.
That’s worrying for United, particularly given set piece specialists Arsenal are up next in their Premier League opener next weekend...
Man Utd 0-0 Fiorentina
12:54 , Alex Dakers4min: A cross from 39-year-old Edin Dzeko finds Moise Kean but the Italian forward heads over the bar.
An early wake-up call for United, though.
Man Utd 0-0 Fiorentina
12:52 , Alex Dakers2min: Mason Mount looks to be leading the line in these opening stages, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha as the No10s in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1.
The Englishman is a good at pressing out of possession, while Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to be the first-choice pairing behind Benjamin Sesko when United’s new striker makes his debut.
Today’s front three may well switch about as the game goes on, but Amorim could be keen to see Mbeumo and Cunha where they’re most likely to feature for him this season.
Kick-off!
12:50 , Alex DakersManchester United get us underway here at Old Trafford!
De Gea receives massive ovation at Old Trafford
12:48 , Alex DakersArguably just as loud as Sesko’s cheers from the Manchester United fans is the ovation for David de Gea.
The former Red Devil received a framed picture from current captain Bruno Fernandes as well there.

Cunha, Leon, Mbeumo, Sesko introduced at Old Trafford
12:44 , Alex DakersManchester United’s new signings are now being officially introduced to the fans at Old Trafford ahead of kick-off.
One by one the foursome of Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have been teed up by the stadium announcer before walking out of the tunnel to rounds of applause.
6ft5in striker Sesko, who was officially unveiled as a United player today, received perhaps the biggest cheer of all there.
They’ve now been followed out onto the pitch by the rest of Ruben Amorim’s XI, and today’s opponents Fiorentina.

Amorim: Sesko 'has characteristics we needed'
12:36 , Alex DakersRuben Amorim has made some comments about Benjamin Sesko now that the Slovenian striker has been officially announced as a Manchester United player.
We expect the 22-year-old to be unveiled in front of the Old Trafford faithful shortly, ahead of kick-off.
"He has the characteristics that we needed,” Amorim told MUTV.
“Ben is a player that, with all the information that we have, we need to stop the guy from working, not the opposite! That is also important.
“He is really young, he is good in the air, he is good running the channels and he is good on the ball, so I think he has great potential. I think he can improve a lot."

United's new signings to receive official introduction
12:30 , Alex DakersSummer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are in the line-up for their Old Trafford debuts today, and were out for autographs and pictures on their way into the stadium earlier.
They’ll be officially introduced to their new club’s fans ahead of kick-off shortly, alongside fellow new recruits Benjamin Sesko and Diego Leon.

Fiorentina squad gets ready as de Gea welcomed back
12:21 , Alex DakersToday’s visitors at Old Trafford, Fiorentina, are getting ready with kick-off less than half an hour away.
Moise Kean, formerly of Everton, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, leads the line for the Italian side with ex-Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko beside him.

No Hojlund as Cunha starts up front for United
12:13 , Alex DakersOne notable omission from Manchester United’s starting XI is of course Rasmus Hojlund.
The Danish striker looks to be surplus to requirements now under Ruben Amorim after the Red Devils snapped up Benjamin Sesko, and could be heading out on loan.
It looks like Matheus Cunha will lead the line instead today, ahead of Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount - who scored in United’s last match - as Amorim’s dual No10s.
It means captain Bruno Fernandes drops back into central midfield alongside veteran Casemiro. That’s hardly a good showing of faith in Kobbie Mainoo or Manuel Ugarte, with United perhaps looking to bring in a new defensive midfielder before the transfer window ends.
Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu continue as the wing-backs after impressing their so far in pre-season, as does Leny Yoro in the back three.
Luke Shaw has been a regular one the left side of United’s central defensive trio this summer but makes way for teenager Ayden Heaven here, while Harry Maguire steps in for Matthijs de Ligt after recovering from a minor injury.
There’s still no sign of Andre Onana, meaning Altay Bayindir continues between the posts with Tom Heaton on the bench alongside de Ligt, Shaw, Hojlund, Mainoo and Ugarte.
Fellow injury list members Joshua Zirkzee, Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez all remain absent as well.

Fiorentina confirmed starting XI
11:58 , Alex DakersFiorentina’s starting line-up is now with us as well...
Fiorentina XI: De Gea; Comuzzo, Pongracic, Ranieri; Dodo, Fagiolo, Sohm, Gosens; Gudmundsson; Dzeko, Kean
Subs: Martinelli, Leonardelli, Lezzerini, Bianco, Fazzini, Fortini, Mandragora, Beltran, Kospo, Sabiri, Pablo Mari, Viti, Richardson, Ndour, Braschi, Kouadio, Montenegro, Trapani, Parisi

Amorim: United's confidence 'growing'
11:50 , Alex Dakers“Growing confidence” is the message from Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim in his pre-match comments as his side prepare to welcome Stefano Piolo’s Fiorentina.
An unbeaten pre-season, if his crew can see out a result today, will indeed bring some more much-needed positivity around Old Trafford ahead of their Premier League opener against Arsenal next weekend following the lows of 2024-25.
Indeed, it would mark the first time United have gone unbeaten in pre-season since 2019.
“I can feel the improvements in the environment now that the right details are in place to help us all to be better,” Amorim said in the match programme.
“The players we worked with last season are looking stronger, and we have made some important additions to the squad.”
He continued: “Bryan and Matheus are top-class players who have proven their qualities in the Premier League, but they are also really humble and showed a huge desire to come to Manchester United. Diego [Leon, United’s new young left-back], is of course, a different type of signing, with high potential for the future.
“We can all see that the confidence in the group is growing, and we feel like a different team already.”

Sesko reveals reason for picking United over Newcastle
11:30 , Alex DakersBenjamin Sesko has revealed why he chose to join Manchester United amid a transfer tussle for his signature.
As we reported earlier, United confirmed the Slovenian’s signing this morning in a deal worth up to £74million from RB Leipzig.
Arsenal earlier this summer showed interest in Sesko, before snapping up Viktor Gyokeres for a cheaper fee, and Newcastle outbid United for the Slovenian only to be rejected by another key summer target.
And Sesko says United's pitch for what the future will bring for the club is what convinced him to join.

De Gea reunited with Sir Alex Ferguson

The former Spain No1 spent more than a decade as a Red Devil and was then a free agent for a full season before Fiorentina picked him up in 2024.

Fiorentina's pre-season so far
11:15 , Alex DakersFiorentina, meanwhile, got off to a stronger start this summer with wins to nil against Grosseto and Carrarese, two sides from the lower tiers of Italian football.
But I Viola then lost 2-0 to Leicester City before a 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest over the last week.
Man United's unbeaten pre-season so far
11:10 , Alex DakersManchester United’s pre-season got off to a bit of a slow start with a goalless draw against Premier League newcomers Leeds United in Stockholm, Sweden.
But the Red Devils have largely improved since, beating West Ham 2-1 and Bournemouth 4-1 before an entertaining 2-2 draw with Everton sealed them the Premier League Summer Series title over in the United States.

Man Utd vs Fiorentina: h2h history and odds
11:00 , Alex DakersIt’s one win apiece plus a draw in United’s three previous contests against Fiorentina.

Man Utd vs Fiorentina prediction
10:50 , Alex DakersUnited started to look like a well-oiled machine going forwards as their pre-season tour of the United States wore on.
Against Everton earlier this week, Cunha and Mbeumo looked dangerous alongside Bruno Fernandes in the attacking trio, while Amad Diallo was electric from right wing-back.
However, there were still holes and mistakes at the back that Amorim will want to tidy up.
Still, they should have too much here at home against a Fiorentina that haven’t exactly wowed in pre-season themselves.
Man Utd to win, 2-0.
Fiorentina early team news
10:45 , Alex DakersAs for Fiorentina’s early team news, exciting forward Christian Kouame is the Serie A side’s only reported absentee.
The 27-year-old Ivorian is ruled out until November with a cruciate ligament problem.
Fiorentina’s squad also features the likes of one-time Everton forward Moise Kean, 39-year-old ex-Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, and one particularly familiar face to United fans...
David de Gea!
Fiorentina predicted XI (3-5-2): De Gea; Kouadio, Mari, Ranieri; Dodo, Fagioli, Fazzini, Parisi; Kean, Dzeko

BREAKING: Man Utd confirm Sesko signing
10:40 , Alex DakersAs we gear up for this afternoon’s action at Old Trafford, I can now bring you all the news that Manchester United have just officially announced the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for a reported £73.7million.
The Red Devils beat Newcastle to the 22-year-old Slovenian striker, who is expected to lead the line in Ruben Amorim’s new-look attack.
Sesko won’t be involved in today’s match, but we do expect to see him on the pitch ahead of kick-off for his unveiling in front of the fans at the ground.

Man Utd early team news
10:35 , Alex DakersThere are still a few names that Ruben Amorim will be sweating over with just over a week to go until the real action begins.
First-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana has been out for the entirety of pre-season with a hamstring injury, although the Cameroonian did say that he hoped to be back in time for the start of the league season.
Lisandro Martinez continues his comeback from an ACL issue, while Joshua Zirkzee could feature here after a couple of weeks out with a minor niggle.
Noussair Mazraoui could miss out completely with a muscular injury after being sidelined for the win over Bournemouth and the draw with Everton.
Otherwise, we’re expecting a full bill of health from the United squad, bar wantaway stars like Alejandro Garnacho of course.
Rasmus Hojlund could start up top amid uncertainty over his future in Manchester.
However, new recruits Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both featured together for the first time against Everton last time out, and they combined well with captain Bruno Fernandes in the front three.
Man United predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Bayindir; Yoro, de Ligt, Shaw; Diallo, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Fernandes; Cunha
