Manchester United vs Chelsea referee confirmed

Anthony Taylor has been appointed as the referee for Manchester United's opening Premier League game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday.

The Red Devils host Frank Lampard's side at Old Trafford as top-flight football in England returns this weekend, with the clash being the final match of the opening weekend.

Taylor, who officiated United's 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League last November, has taken charge of 25 United matches so far in his career - including the club's 3-2 victory over Newcastle United last October.

He has also officiated a clash between United and Chelsea before, which came back in November 2017 in a 1-0 defeat for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

The assistant referees for the clash are Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, while the fourth official is Lee Mason - and two more officials will also be involved in the game.

With VAR introduced to the Premier League for the 2019/20, it will of course be in effect at Old Trafford on Sunday and Stuart Attwell will be in control, while Stephen Child is the VAR assistant.

A number of new rules and regulations will also be in effect from this weekend in the new season, including yellow cards being issued to managers and members of the coaching team.

United's clash with Chelsea kicks-off at 16:30 BST on Sunday August 11th, where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer starts his first full campaign in charge up against Lampard, who is set for his first competitive game as Chelsea boss.
