Manchester United vs Chelsea in WSL postponed due to Storm Ciara

Manchester United's game against Chelsea in the Women's Super League has been postponed due to safety concerns because of

Casey Stoney's side were due to host Chelsea at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday afternoon but the adverse weather conditions led to the WSL fixture being postponed.

While many other WSL sides cancelled their games earlier in the day United held off until just before midday, with the hope that conditions would ease ahead of the 4.30pm kick off.

But with conditions getting worse and fan and staff safety a concern, the game was called off.

A statement from the club read: "Due to the adverse weather conditions and in the interest of safety, our game against Chelsea has been postponed."

A new date has yet to be set for the fixture but an announcement is expected in due course.

The storm, which has battered the country on Sunday, led to all WSL games being postponed including the Merseyside derby which was set to be played at Goodison Park.

United now have three games to reschedule after their clashes against Brimingham City and Liverpool were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Both Manchester City's men's and women's games against West Ham, which were due to be played on Sunday afternoon at the Etihad and Rush Green respectively, were called off due to safety concerns.
