Manchester United vs Brighton the latest Premier League game to be postponed

Brighton have confirmed their Premier League meeting with Manchester United will be postponed due to the rising Covid concerns across the game.

United saw their clash with Brentford earlier this week cancelled in similar fashion as the new Omicron variant wreaks havoc across the Premier League and beyond.

Saturday’s game is the latest to be called off after Wednesday's fixture between Burnley and Watford was postponed hours before kick-off and Thursday’s meeting between Leicester City and Tottenham suffered the same fate.

Fears are naturally growing over the prospect of another Covid-enforced shutdown.

“Albion’s game against @ManUtd at Old Trafford on Saturday has been postponed,” read a tweet through their official club channel.

“Manchester United continue to have an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak within their squad, which has left them unable to field a team for the match at Old Trafford.

The Premier League, meanwhile, released their own statement and confirmed their desire to see the fixture schedule continue.

“While recognising a number of clubs are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks, it is the League’s intention to continue its current fixture schedule where safely possible. The health and wellbeing of all concerned remains our priority.”
