Manchester United vs ASEAN All-Stars LIVE!
Manchester United’s abject season went from bad to worse on Wednesday as the Red Devils fell to a 1-0 defeat in Kuala Lumpur. Ruben Amorim cut a miserable figure throughout the friendly as his side were unable to break down the ASEAN All-Stars, a super-team comprised of Southeast Asian and Australian players. His already irredeemable campaign was somehow made more bleak.
While Amorim named a strong squad, featuring five of those who started the Europa League final, it was no surprise that United were groggy off the mark, having flown to Kuala Lumpur just hours after finishing their Premier League campaign with a win over Aston Villa on Sunday. But jetlag aside, there can be few excuses for the quality of their performance.
In the first half hour, All-Stars looked far more likely to score, going close through Nguyen Hai Long and Amani Aguinaldo, but the deadlock remained as Andre Onana made some important stops. Follow the game LIVE below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Arthur Ferridge.

One of Hojlund's last United appearances?
13:39 , Arthur FerridgeIt looks like Rasmus Hojlund’s time at Man United could be coming to an end this summer.
No secret has been made of the fact that things haven’t gone entirely to plan for the striker since arriving in Manchester - he has scored 26 goals in 95 appearances for the club, managing just four League goals this season.
Now linked with a move to Napoli, he could be set to say goodbye to United and Old Trafford.
Could he end his career on a high with a goal tonight?

Amorim previews the tie: 'Amazing' to see Malaysian fans, but coy on season goals
13:19 , Arthur FerridgeOn being in Malaysia: "For us, it's amazing to see, even in a difficult season, how many fans this club has. It's our duty to be here, it's a pleasure. They're outside and following this club for so many years and, for us, it's really important to have that connection. It's what makes this club one of the best in the world so we're pleased to be here."
Finishing the season on a high: "The biggest positive was in the last game of a really tough season, the feeling in the stadium is a club that is really alive and believes we can change things. I think we're improving as a team. We have a lack of goals that punishes us in a lot of games but we are improving in certain aspects. That's the beginning of something."
On next season’s goals: "The target next season, I will not tell you now. The important thing is to win the first game, then we'll see. We have a lot to do this summer and we have to prepare the team. People will expect us to be on the top at Man United but I don't want to think about a big target.
Kuala Lumpur weather report
13:13 , Arthur FerridgeThe conditions are far from hospitable in tropical Kuala Lumpur.
United’s players will switch the drizzly northwest for temperatures in excess of 30°, with humidity touching 70%.
Oh, and there’s no breeze either.
On the plus side, though, no rain is expected through the tie.
"Lots of empty seats"
13:14 , Arthur FerridgeWith just over half an hour to kick-off, journalist Laurie Whitwell reports ‘lots of empty seats’ in the ground.

Garnacho benched
13:08 , Arthur FerridgeAfter being pictured throughout the first days of this trip looking, shall we say, disinterested, Alejandro Garnacho drops to the bench.
Ruben Amorim has reportedly instructed him to find a new club after dropping him for the Europa League final.
While you can never read too far between the lines with a friendly squad, it is hardly an encouraging outlook for the Argentine’s United career.

Moorhouse tipped for first-team impact
12:59 , Arthur FerridgeJack Moorhouse makes his first-team bow today, having recovered from a rash of injuries.
Manchester Evening News are tipping the 19-year-old to solidify his first-team role next campaign after he trained with them throughout this season.
A big opportunity awaits!
Amorim goes strong
12:51 , Arthur FerridgeRemarkably strong. Six of today’s XI started the Europa League final against Tottenham last week.
Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes drop the bench, with 19-year-old prospect Jack Moorhouse slotting in for his senior debut and Reece Munro making up the numbers.
Confirmed Man United XI
12:45Man United XI: Onana; Munro, Maguire, Heaven, Dalot; Casemiro, Ugarte, Dorgu, Moorhouse, Mainoo; Hojlund
Subs: Bayindir, Heaton, Amass, Armer, Evans, Fredricson, Kamason, Kukonki, Collyer, Fernandes, Fletcher, Kone, Thwaites, Amad, Garnacho, Lacey, Obi
Last time out in Kuala Lumpur
12:41 , Arthur FerridgeUnited are no strangers to the Bukit Jalil Stadium - they sold it out in 2009.
Back in the golden era of Sir Alex’s globally-feared United, Malaysia XI gave them a tough tie, with United battling to a 3-2 win thanks to an 85th-minute winner from none other than the debutant, Michael Owen.
Also on the scoresheet for United were Wayne Rooney and Nani, but Mohammed Amri Yahyah’s brace meant it was far from a comfortable outing for the then-Premier League champions.
Close to 100,000 fans packed the stands then, and a similar crowd will be expected today.

United's goal for the day
12:33As with any preseason friendly, United’s primary goal with this tie will be to avoid injuries.
Ruben Amorim has not had a fantastic run with injuries this season, losing several key players to extended injuries, including Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez.
With a squad full of jetlagged heads and tired legs, injuries are not unlikely.
What does this match mean for United?
12:24 , Arthur FerridgeFor the Red Devils, this is primarily a commercial tour. As Jim Ratcliffe looks to get the club back into the green, he has scrimped and saved wherever possible this season, enacting dramatic layoffs.
While complaints will be made about player welfare as they jet halfway around the world mere hours after completing a gruelling and exhausting Premier League campaign, the tour makes some degree of fiscal sense.
Marking United’s first visit to Malaysia since their 2009 pre-season tour, the trip is expected to generate upwards of £7m for the club.
Familiar faces in the ASEAN All-Stars?
12:13 , Arthur FerridgeTwo names in the ASEAN All-Stars may look familiar: this afternoon’s hosts could line up with both Sergio Aguero and João Pedro in the starting XI.
Not the ones you’re thinking of, though.
This Sergio Aguero is, in fact, Argentine-born, and came through River Plate academy, but represents the Malaysian national team and made his professional debut at second-tier Hungarian side Tatabányai. He now represents Sri Pahang, who this year finished eighth in the Malaysia Super League.
His ASEAN teammate João Pedro is not currently linked with a transfer to Chelsea, Standard Sport understands. He is a Timor-Leste international and plays at club level for Angkor Tiger in the Cambodia Premier League.
Brighton’s João Pedro scored with his head against Man United earlier this season. His Timorese namesake will hope to match those heroics today.
Who are the ASEAN All-Stars?
12:03 , Arthur FerridgeThe ASEAN All-Stars is exactly what it says on the tin: An all-star team made up of players from the ASEAN Football Federation, which encompasses Southeast Asia and Australia.
This match will be just the second in their history and the first since 204, when they lost 1-0 to the Indonesia national team.
This is a new look squad, though, headed up by South Korean manager Kim Sang-sik, who made 378 K League appearances as a player and also serves as head coach of the Vietnam national side.
Standard Sport prediction: United to cruise
11:55For all their struggles this season, United were the better team against Villa on Sunday, albeit while playing against 10 men for just over half of the match.
With this being a friendly, it’s unclear exactly how strong a starting XI will be fielded on Wednesday. Amorim will likely be looking to balance winning ambitions with some minutes for the youngsters in the group.
Garnacho’s inclusion in the squad might have raised some eyebrows given his apparent split from the manager and omission from the final domestic match of the season, but the reintegration of Mason Mount could continue amid early trials and experiments for next season.
No matter the approach, United’s hierarchy and fans will expect a relatively comfortable victory in Kuala Lumpur.
Manchester United to win, 3-1.
Man United early team news: Several defenders absent
11:50 , Arthur FerridgeUnited have brought close to their full first team to Malaysia, including a crop of academy youngsters.
Some players are not expected to feature, though. Leny Yoro (foot/ankle) and Lisandro Martinez (ACL) will both miss the tie through injury, as will Noussair Mazraoui.
Luke Shaw struggled with injury throughout this campaign, but has travelled with the squad.
There is also a good chance Alejandro Garnacho will not feature after Ruben Amorim reportedly old him to find a new club.
