Manchester United and Arsenal will resume their fierce rivalry when the two sides go head-to-head on Monday.
Throughout the Premier League era, United and the Gunners, both of whom have suffered poor starts to the league season, have been involved in some historic battles, both in individual matches and title races.
But nowadays, despite United and Arsenal not being considered as front runners in the quest for the Premier League crown, it is still a battle that fans eagerly await.
For the majority of the two sides’ Premier League rivalry, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger were the brains behind the historic clashes, such as United’s 6-1 triumph in 2001 and Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford back in 2002 which secured the title.
But now the responsibility lies to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Unai Emery to try and deliver for their supporters and, indeed, the neutrals, who often keep a close eye on proceedings when these two meet.
However, on this occasion, it won’t be just the bragging rights that will be of great significance, certainly not from a United perspective anyway. They will welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford in desperate need of three points following last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham.
