We’re going to wrap this blog up now. We’ll have a match report up here shortly. Thanks for reading. Bye!

Updated

Manchester United did everything but score. They dominated the game, had all the possession, forced 19 corners, and created at least six clear chances, but just couldn’t score. A combination of fine goalkeeping and poor finishing cost them: Tom Heaton made three or four excellent saves, but Ibrahimovic (twice) and Rooney wasted glorious chances. Not too much wrong with the performance, but the shooting was substandard. Burnley rode their luck, and barely created a chance, but the goalkeeper and the two centre-backs deserve great credit.

Mourinho’s post-match comments should be fun.

Full-time: Manchester United 0-0 Burnley

90 min +4 It’s just not Man United’s day, is it?

90 min +3 Heaton is booked for time-wasting. Burnley have everyone back.

90 min +2 Rooney hits it over the bar! It was played to the edge of the box, and Rooney was totally free … and he fires it too high! What a massive chance.

90 min +1 Marney is booked for a late tackle on Fellaini by the corner flag.

90 min Five minutes of stoppage time. Burnley look shattered. Rojo shoots from 30 yards, and it’s a real waste. Over the bar.

89 min Oh, Ibrahimovic from six yards! Pogba whipped a lovely ball in from the left, and Ibrahimovic put it over the bar! Actually, it was more like four yards. The best chance of the day.

87 min Luke Shaw from the edge of the box! Oh, so close. Just wide.

86 min Burnley have everyone back in their 18-yard box. Blind shoots from 18 yards, and it’s just over the bar! Deflected. Another corner. Headed behind, and it’s yet another corner. No19 for Manchester United.

85 min It’s looking like one of those days for Manchester United. But Flanagan is penalised for a handball, and this is a good crossing opportunity.

84 min Final change for Burnley: George Boyd on for Gudmundsson.

83 min Barnes buys a cheap free kick, and Rojo is dismayed. Gudmundsson plays it in, United clear, but Burnley win it back. Then Pogba is late on Lowton, and is booked.

82 min Memphis Depay replaces Rashford.

81 min Rashford and Ibrahimovic try to link up, but Keane is in quickly to stop it. Burnley have defended really stubbornly.

80 min United have lost some of the rhythm since Herrera’s dismissal. Lowton heads behind for a corner.

79 min Barnes tries to cross it on the half-volley, and slices it into the upper deck.

78 min Burnley’s last win here was in 1962. Can they do it again?

Updated

75 min Rooney attacks Gudmundsson down the left, and is tackled cleanly. Burnley advance, and Barnes heads wide. Decent effort, but it was tough to score from that angle.

73 min This is set up for a lovely last 20 minutes or so. Rooney and Fellaini are playing in midfield, incidentally.

71 min Ibrahimovic fires over, and another chance goes begging. Fellaini’s on for Mata, and Rooney replaces Lingard.

70 min Rooney’s warming up. And Fellaini’s coming on too. Darmian goes down in the box, and the fans immediately cry for a penalty, but no call from Clattenburg.

69 min Well, well, well. Herrera was booked in the first half for a late tackle on Marney, and he just received another one from Mark Clattenburg for a tackle on the same player. He was late, but it looked as though he slipped as he went in. That’s unlucky. But what a chance for Burnley in this game now.

RED CARD! Ander Herrera (Manchester United)

Oh my. Herrera sent off!

67 min Burnley can’t get out of their half. It’s surely only a matter of time before Man United score.

65 min Rashford hits one. Deflected behind. Burnley working so hard to keep this at 0-0. And Mata hits the post! So unlucky. Mata shot on the turn, and Heaton was beaten, but it came back off the woodwork. And that’s off the bar from Ibrahimovic’s looping header! Unbelievable.

63 min This is one-way traffic now. Burnley just happy to defend.

62 min Heaton is holding his elbow. No wonder: Ibrahimovic got such power in that strike.

60 min Darmian wins another corner. Taken short, and Burnley fail to clear, and then Heaton saves from Ibrahimovic’s volley! Ibrahimovic absolutely caned it from about seven yards, karate style, and Heaton kept it out! Magnificent.

59 min Burnley hanging on a little here. Mata nearly goes through, but Keane comes across, and then gets a lucky ricochet to win the goal kick. Ashley Barnes replaces Andre Gray.

57 min Pogba wanted a penalty for handball against Keane. It hit his elbow, but his hands didn’t seem to be in an unnatural position. United cranking it up, though.

56 min Rashford wins another corner. Again, it’s headed clear.

55 min This match has really livened up. And then Heaton saves from Mata! Another brilliant save. Ibrahimovic went in the inside-left channel, and cut it back to Mata, but Heaton came up big again! Heaton’s been superb today.

54 min Arfield puts it high over the bar on the volley! He was free in the box. That was Burnley’s best chance.

53 min Ibrahimovic and Mata, who have combined really well this afternoon, link up again, but Mee is across to get a vital touch.

51 min Mee goes in hard on Ibrahimovic on the edge of the box, but it looked like a fair tackle.

50 min Blind’s delivery is headed clear yet again. And then Gray broke clear on halfway, and he was suddenly clean through, but Shaw did really well to come back and win it! Gray’s touch just let him down, but Shaw’s cover was excellent.

49 min Great ball in from Rashford from the right, and Keane, who’s been extremely solid, puts it behind for a goal kick.

José Mourinho sent to the stands

47 min Burnley played determinedly in the first half, but they didn’t really look after the ball – United had 73% of possession through the first 45. Can the visitors construct a chance or two?

We’re hearing that José Mourinho has been sent to the stands for complaining too vehemently about the non-penalty call after Flanagan caught Darmian.

46 min We’re back. No changes from either side.

Half-time: Manchester United 0-0 Burnley

A good half for Burnley. They’ve stuck at it. Manchester United should probably be ahead, but Tom Heaton has made two good stops to deny Ibrahimovic and Lingard. Reasonably entertaining, but let’s hope for better in the second half.

45 min Man United have had nine corner in this first half, and Burnley seem to have headed nine of them away. Two minutes of stoppage time. Darmian goes down just inside the box, but Mark Clattenburg says no! Flanagan stuck out a leg, and there was definite, if slight contact. But was it enough for a penalty?

44 min That was a better couple of minutes from Manchester United. More intensity. Pogba lets fly from 30 yards, and Heaton tips it over.

43 min Stephen Ward can’t continue, so the on-loan Jon Flanagan is on.

42 min Ibrahimovic goes close. Lovely give and go between Ibrahimovic and Herrera, but Mee deflects Ibrahimovic’s shot up over the bar. And that’s a brilliant save from Heaton to deny Lingard! After the corner was cleared, Herrera slung it back in, and Lingard planted a header on goal, only for Heaton to stretch and tip it over! I thought that was in.

41 min Herrera shows good vision to release Darmian, and it’s another corner, and again United do sod all with it.

40 min Another Man United corner, their fifth. Vokes heads powerfully away.

38 min It’s just not working for Manchester United at the moment. Rashford hasn’t had much of an influence, and the hosts have been reduced to shots from outside the box, like this one from Pogba, which goes miles over the bar.

36 min Rojo shoots from about 35 yards, and it’s deflected behind for a corner. Vokes heads it clear at the near post.

34 min Burnley are digging in. They’re playing OK, and Gudmundsson tests De Gea after Stephen Ward went clear on the left. Decent effort.

33 min Keane wins it, but it glances off the top of his head and it’s behind for a goal kick.

32 min Good move from Burnley after Mark Clattenburg played an excellent advantage following Herrera’s late tackle on Marney. Burnley win a corner, and Herrera is retrospectively booked.

30 min Great run from Mata, who burns past Marney and crosses towards Ibrahimovic, but Ward did well to mop up. Ibrahimovic maybe should have tried to head it rather than wait for it to come down.

28 min Better from Burnley. Gray ran past Blind on the left side and crossed towards Vokes, but it didn’t quite fall for him, and it’s behind for goal kick. Gray had too much pace for Blind then.

26 min Ibrahimovic gives away another daft free kick, and that’ll be his final warning. Gudmundsson lifts it in, but the whistle goes for a foul.

25 min Ibrahimovic shoves Mee on halfway, and it’s the clearest free kick you’ll see. Manchester United still well on top here.

23 min Mata links up really well with Ibrahimovic, and his shot is well saved by Heaton. Corner taken short to Lingard, and his shot is deflected over the bar for another corner.

22 min Vokes smashes one from about 25 yards, but it’s well wide.

19 min Vokes is down holding his jaw. I think he got an accidental knee in the face from Darmian. He’ll be OK, though.

17 min Heaton saves from Ibrahimovic! The best chance of the game. Mata picked it up 20 yards from goal, and slid a fabulous pass through to Ibrahimovic, but Heaton came out to block well. Could Ibrahimovic have gone round the goalie there? He tried to slip it underneath him; maybe taking an extra touch would have been better. Great pass from Mata, though.

15 min First look for Burnley, and it nearly falls for Hendrick on the edge of the box, but Blind is fouled, and it’s a free kick to Man United.

14 min United have just slackened off rather after a good first five minutes. Shaw brings down Gudmundsson, and is slightly fortunate to escape a booking.

12 min Burnley are working hard to cut off Manchester United’s space, but they’re finding it extremely difficult to get anything going in attack.

10 min Keane tries to release Gray down the right channel, but Rojo is smartly across.

8 min Keane heads clear only to Ibrahimovic, who wallops it over the bar from 20 yards. Ibrahimovic hasn’t scored in five games, which represents his worst run for six years.

6 min An email from Matt Loten: “I can’t quite believe that Michael Kightly is 30 years old. Granted, I had almost forgotten that the lad existed, but it still only seems a couple of years ago that he was at Wolves and being touted as the ‘Next Big Thing To Come Out Of The Championship’. Now that he’s back on the bench, maybe he can have a word in the ear of Patrick Bamford; offer him a little advice on what not to do.”

5 min Burnley haven’t managed to string two passes together yet; the game’s being played exclusively in their half. An energetic start from the hosts, and Mata with a chance on the penalty spot, but again, he can’t quite get the connection, and it’s safely through to Heaton.

Updated

4 min Blind’s corner is driven low, and is eventually hammered clear by Lowton. Burnley looked slightly at sixes and sevens then.

3 min Pogba is playing deep with Herrera in midfield. Mata’s in the hole, with Lingard to the right and Rashford on the left. Pogba hits one from 30 yards, and it’s off Marney’s boot for a corner.

2 min Ibrahimovic with a first shot on target within 30 seconds. He did well to work the space, but didn’t quite get hold of the shot.

1 min We’re away! Manchester United in red, white and black; Burnley in their change strip blue with claret trim.

While you wait: do read this interview with Burnley’s Steven Defour by the excellent Andy Hunter:

Juan Mata is Manchester United’s captain today, incidentally.

And Sean Dyche: “You need to play well, defend well, attack well, and you need decisions to be equal. The overriding thing for me is the performance. That’s important for us today.”

Here’s José Mourinho: “After two very difficult matches in the Premier League we now have an opportunity to play at home and to try to get the three points. But I know the way Burnley approach matches, and I know how competitive they can be, so I’m not waiting for an easy match.”

Some news on Antonio Valencia: he needs an operation.

Hello and welcome

We’re a quarter of the way into the league season, and José Mourinho’s Manchester United remain a work in progress. The Portuguese was brought in in the summer to right the wrongs of the Moyes and Van Gaal eras, but it hasn’t quite worked out in the way he would have liked, and as we move into November, United are at risk of being left behind.

His Manchester United side sit seventh in the Premier League, a point behind Everton, having lost three times already, and there are complex issues to address: central defence, central midfield, the full-back positions, what to do with Pogba, what to do with Rooney. The list goes on. Last week’s 4-0 humiliation at Chelsea was just that; a deeply un-Mourinho like performance from a manager who has yet to fully re-mould his team in his image. United were rubbish at Stamford Bridge; it was Mourinho’s heaviest defeat for six years.

But United beat City 1-0 in midweek in the League Cup, and showed signs of improvement in doing so. Today’s home game against a Burnley side that can’t win away represents an excellent opportunity for United to gain some points and regain some confidence: a goal or four wouldn’t go amiss, either. A home defeat, on the other hand, would be most unwelcome. This game could be tense; it should at least offer intrigue.

Tim will be here shortly. In the meantime, here’s José on why Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs a little more time:

The United manager explained: “He’s not injured. Sometimes I confuse the meaning ‘fit’ in the English language. Sometimes you have the view that fit means you are not injured, sometimes fit is great condition and ready to compete. That is a different thing for me. In Portugal we use different words for different situations. Micky is not injured. He is training with the team 100% with no limitation in terms of his fitness related injuries.

“I think it takes time. Some players, their profile is adapted to come and play, some others they need more time to feel the intensity and the aggression, the game without the ball, the competitiveness. Many times players come from different countries. The style of football is different and the reality is different in terms of competitiveness. There’s no other country where it doesn’t matter the team you play against, you have to play at the highest level or if you don’t you have no chance. Micky needs time to become the top player he can be.”

Mkhitaryan was named player of the year in the Bundesliga last season and Mourinho cited Willian and Ángel Di María as examples of attacking midfielders who have flourished in his teams following difficult starts, at Chelsea and Real Madrid respectively.

“I think it will work out for sure,” he added of the Armenian. “I don’t like to speak about players from other clubs but I don’t think they will be upset with me – Willian, when he arrived at Chelsea, had problems to play. He went through a process, a difficult few months and then after he became a top player. The next season he became absolutely phenomenal and still is.

“When Di María arrived at Real Madrid he also had to learn a lot about his game and a new reality. Sometimes it happens – sometimes with defenders but it’s easier for defenders. For attacking players sometimes they arrive and go straight to success. Other times it takes a little more time. In Mikhi’s case the process was interrupted by an injury that kept him out for about a month. To be out for a month in this process and then be fit but not fit to play you have to go through a process of getting match fitness and then you need competitive level to do it. Of course we believe in him and of course we believe that sooner or later there will be no problem.”
