Manchester United urged to switch attention away from Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff

Manchester United have been urged to forget about their interest in Newcastle United ace Sean Longstaff by outspoken pundit Robbie Savage.

The former Red Devils academy graduate believes that moving for Longstaff would be the incorrect choice this summer for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - as he outlined why swooping for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish would be better.

Longstaff has been linked with a £25m move to Old Trafford, although Newcastle are firm in their stance that they will not sell the 21-year-old this summer.

Solskjaer’s interest in a midfielder who made nine Premier League appearances for Rafael Benitez’s side does not seem to be fading though, so Savage ’s suggested alternative will go down well with those on Tyneside.

“If I were Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the first signing on my list this summer would be Jack Grealish," Savage told the Mirror.

"If the rumours are true, and Manchester United are looking at Swansea's Daniel James and Newcastle prospect Sean Longstaff as possible signings, I would go for Grealish ahead of them.

“Even if Aston Villa win promotion on Monday, Grealish is the player I would move heaven and earth to wear the red shirt of United. As the best player in the Championship, he would cost a lot for Solskjaer to buy.

“But Grealish glides past opponents, took on the Villa captaincy at a young age and thrived on the responsibility. Jack’s the lad. He’s the one United should be looking to sign ahead of anyone else.”
