Manchester United urged to sign two of England's brightest young talents in summer transfer window

Manchester United have been urged to sign two of England's most talented young attackers in Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer, by Arsenal legend Paul Merson.

After an unbelievable start, United have tailed off recently under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he is expected to add new recruits to his squad in the summer.

United have been repeatedly linked with Borussia Dortmund's Sancho, who has had an incredible season in Germany, spearheading Dortmund's first title challenge in years with 11 goals and 17 assists, and has also become an England regular at 19.

Hudson-Odoi had a harder run to the first team, as Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri seemed reluctant to play the 18-year-old. But after the Italian bowed to fan pressure he finally broke into the first team and didn't disappoint until an achilles injury cruelly cut his season short.

Both are highly promising players and Merson believes they are the calibre of player United should be targeting in the transfer window.

"They need to bring in top quality players," Merson told Sky Sports.

"They could say to Ole: 'You’ve got four years here now, get some youngsters in like a Callum Hudson-Odoi or a Jadon Sancho.'

"Players who are enthusiastic, who’ve got pace and energy and play like the old Manchester United did."

Five players Manchester United are tipped to sign this summer by bookmakers

Due to United's recent awful run of form of just two victories in the last 10 games in all competitions, they have only the slightest of chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League - with the 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday being a massive missed opportunity.

Merson has been very critical of the run and explained how costly it could be.

"I’m watching them now and honestly, it’s cringeworthy, it’s embarrassing. It’s embarrassing," he said.

"If you look at Jose Mourinho at the end it was a relief that he left because he probably thought: “How he was going to close the gap?” Mourinho would have looked at Liverpool rising too.

"In my opinion United are the biggest club in the world, but if they came in for me and I was a top drawer player but I could go other places, I would seriously be looking and thinking: 'Would I want to come here? Are we ever going to get near City or Liverpool?'"
