Manchester United have been urged to ignore Harry Kane and Erling Haaland and sign Antoine Griezmann this summer instead.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to want a new striker, as Anthony Martial struggled for form last season and while Edinson Cavani has been impressive for the Reds, at 34 years old he is only likely to be a short-term option.
The names at the top of United 's wishlist are reportedly Tottenham striker Kane and Borussia Dortmund star Haaland, but both would cost at least £100m, a major roadblock to any deal.
Now former Premier League-winning midfielder Luke Chadwick has recommend that his former club look in the direction of Barcelona frontman Griezmann.
"Griezmann is a world-class player, he’s won the World Cup and been a pivotal part of the team that won that,” Chadwick told CaughtOffside.
“He’s a bit different from a Kane or a Haaland, more of a false nine who gets into those little pockets of space behind the striker or out wide.
"You’d hope that United are in for players like this and that he could be persuaded by someone like [Paul] Pogba, who’s got a good relationship with him, who plays well with him.
“He’s someone who could also be on Bruno Fernandes’ wavelength too, with his movement and ability to score goals. If someone like Griezmann comes in and is available you’d hope they’d consider him as he could really add something to the squad.”
Griezmann is linked away with a move from the Camp Nou just two years after joining in a €120m move from Atletico Madrid.
Now 30 years of age, the Frenchman could be snapped up at a cut price as the Catalan club are in dire financial straits and need to balance the budget in order to renew Lionel Messi's contract, which expired at the beginning of July.
Manchester City have also been linked with a move for Griezmann as they look to replace Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer.
