Manchester United urged to make Erling Haaland transfer by former player

Former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson believes signing Erling Haaland in the January window would be a huge boost for the club.

United are targeting the RB Salzburg striker, who has worked with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the past during their time at Norwegian club Molde.

Haaland is interesting a number of clubs after a goal record of more than one per game in the Austrian league this season, plus some high profile strikes in the Champions League.

Reports from Norway on Friday morning suggested Haaland was flying to Manchester Airport for talks, though Solskjaer downplayed those reports in a press conference. Haaland is understood to be taking a connecting flight to Copenhagen for a holiday.

But Kleberson, who played for United between 2003 and 2005, told MEN Sport via BetOclock that Haaland would be a superb addition with the Reds in need of more firepower up front.

"Haaland’s a very young player, but he’s been performing well at the top level for RB Salzburg this season," said the former Brazil World Cup winner.

"He’s got great potential and with Man United needing a striker and a midfielder to come in, he’d be a great signing.

"Signing a player in January can bring a positive boost to the club and with the confidence at the club now, it will only benefit him and Man United."

Before United's recent 1-1 draw with Everton, Solskjaer suggested Haaland had already decided on his future, with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig among those also interested in a January transfer.

Solskjaer has also admitted Haaland is a "player I like" and added: "Erling has had a nice development and he should keep developing where he decides to go."
