Manchester United urged not to sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham

Former Liverpool forward Peter Crouch believes that Manchester United shouldn't sign Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen.

The Dane has expressed his desire to leave the club in search of a new challenge, but failed to finalise a move away before the transfer window slammed shut.

MEN Sport understood Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was interested in bringing the midfielder to Old Trafford but United weren't convinced that the 27-year-old wanted the move, believing his preferred destination was Real Madrid.

Reports continue to speculate that United could rekindle their interest in January with Eriksen's contract set to expire next summer, but Crouch feels it would be a transfer mistake.

The ex-England international believes the playmaker wouldn't fit into Solskjaer's style of play.

"At Manchester United  at the moment they seem to be buying top, top players who have come available," he said on BT Sport. "I think they were linked with Christian Eriksen today - yeah he’s a top player but does he fit in the way Manchester United want to play?

"I think they are missing a director of football or a link from the financial side to the playing side.

"I think at the moment the decisions that are being made aren’t the right ones.

"Whoever’s making the decisions of hiring and firing the managers or buying the players, it’s not been a success. I think a lot of that money has been wasted.

"I like the transfer policy this season, obviously Daniel James, I like Harry Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, it’s not all bad.

"They’re three very, very good young talented players and I think they’ve been a huge addition to Manchester United, but the problems started before that.

"I think until they get that link between boardroom and playing staff, I think they’ll constantly have these problems."
