Manchester United turn down chance to sign West Ham United youngster after Bristol City trial

Manchester United are said to have deemed a move for West Ham United youngster Kai Corbett as too expensive.

The talented 17-year-old was a surprise trialist at Bristol City last month, appearing for the Robins' under-23s in a 2-2 draw with QPR at Weston-super-Mare.

City were mulling over making a move for Corbett, who has scored almost 150 goals in three seasons in the Hammers' youth set-up, but Bristol Live understands they ultimately decided against it.

The Robins' youth set-up is currently in a healthy state, with a number of talented attackers currently at various stages of breaking through into the senior set-up.

After his Robins stint ended, Corbett subsequently had a trial at Manchester United earlier this month - impressing on his debut as he scored for the Red Devils' under-18s in a win over Blackburn Rovers.

There had been talk that this meant Corbett had done enough to sign for the Red Devils, but, last week, Hammers youngster Mipo Odubeko posted a picture of the young striker in Claret and Blue with the caption 'Missed this geeza'.

It suggests that Corbett is set to stay at the Hammers for the time being, despite being allowed to go on trial to other clubs.

Twitter account 'ExWHUemployee', which tends to be fairly reliable when it comes to news on the Hammers, claimed that, whilst Corbett has had trials, his youth contract at West Ham means that, even at his age, he comes with a fairly hefty price tag.

They said: "He was on trial at Manchester United but if he leaves West Ham, his new club have to pay a large compensation deal and Manchester United felt he wasn’t worth that apparently."

So it appears that, for now, Corbett will stay put at West Ham - but, with his record in youth football, it may be a case of 'remember the name'.
