Manchester United turmoil has handed Mikel Arteta and Arsenal bargain £22m January midfielder

The recent turmoil at Manchester United has potentially given Arsenal an excellent opportunity to strengthen their side in the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, seventeen first-team players are said to be unhappy with the coaching regime at Carrington after the appointment of Ralf Rangnick, who came in to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Donny Van De Beek is reportedly one of the players who is unhappy, as his game time has been extremely limited despite the change in managers at the club.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a midfielder due to a shortage at the club, and a deal for Van De Beek would certainly go a long way in not only improving the squad depth but also the quality of the squad.

The Dutch midfielder joined Manchester United at the start of the 2020/2021 season in a £35m deal from Eredivise side Ajax.

Despite the large fee United paid for the midfielder, he was automatically resorted to a place on the substitutes bench and has never been able to stake a claim in the starting XI whether that was under Solskjaer or Rangnick.

Van De Beek has shown the quality he possesses during his time with Ajax, where he was essential to the sides excellent Champions League run during the 2018/2019 season.

The box-to-box midfielder scored in both the Quarter and Semi-Finals for the Dutch side during the famous European run, as they were unfortunately knocked out by Spurs in the dying minutes of the second.

The Gunners are in need of a central midfielder, as the club are suffering from shortages in the middle of the park due to the African Cup of Nations and injury issues.

Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka are considered the club’s strongest midfield pivot, but both have been ruled out with injury throughout this season.

Albert Sambi Lokonga still needs time to mature as a player, despite the excellent potential he possesses, whilst Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to join AS Roma on a loan deal, which opens the space for a new signing.

Edu should certainly exploit Van De Beek’s displeasure at Manchester United to potentially create a loan move, which would suit all parties involved. He is a quality midfielder, and would certainly provide good cover for Partey, who is currently away with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations.
