Manchester United transfer targets: Every striker on their summer shortlist revealed

Manchester United have four key strikers on their summer transfer shortlist, Standard Sport understands.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was content to let Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez join Inter Milan last summer without signing a replacement, though United have at times this season struggled without a goalscorer.

Marcus Rashford's long-term layoff with a back injury exposed Solskjaer's lack of options, with Odion Ighalo brought in during the winter window to offer a presence up front.

The Nigerian has been in impressive form for United since his loan move from Shanghai Shenhua, but his future remains unclear with the 2019/20 season on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fifa has approved plans to move the summer transfer window back to between whenever this season finishes and the next one begins, but United are already busy planning their recruitment strategy.

Solskjaer has spoken of his confidence that United will be able to make some key signings, with the Red Devils boss wanting at least three recruits in a bid to turn his side into potential title challengers next term.

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is the top target, with Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and Leicester City's James Maddison also high on Solskjaer's wishlist.

But while Solskjaer is looking for creative talent to provide chances, he definitely needs an out-and-out forward - and here are the four names on his shortlist, according to James Robson...

Harry Kane: Tottenham

The Spurs captain recently suggested he would be open to leaving the club if they did not match his ambitions. However, Kane would cost over £150million, so that puts him out of nearly every club's budget - and whether United would spend that kind of money after paying a potential £120m for Sancho is doubtful.

Erling Haaland: Borussia Dortmund

United missed out on the Norwegian last summer, and have fallen out with his agent Mino Raiola - but the 19-year-old could be available this summer given he has a release clause below £70m. Champions League qualification would likely be a must if Haaland was to move again so soon, though.

Timo Werner: RB Leipzig

The German forward has lit up the Bundesliga to alert Europe's top clubs, tough Werner has spoken of his admiration for Liverpool. There's not a lot United could do if he wanted to move to Anfield, but the prospect of becoming a star man in a rebuild could be more tempting than warming the bench for Jurgen Klopp. Possibly.

Moussa Dembele: Lyon

At 23 and with bags of pace, the former Celtic forward fits the profile for Solskjaer's high-intensity attack. Dembele would certainly come cheaper than Kane, but once again, there is plenty of demand for his signature,

What about Odion Ighalo?

James Robson: "He could be available for around £15m – but would have to take a massive cut on his salary in China, which is believed to be £300,000-a-week.

"And despite being a life-long United fan, he is open to returning to Shanghai when his loan expires."
