Manchester United transfer target Raphael Varane considering quitting Real Madrid

Raphael Varane is considering leaving Real Madrid this summer after eight years at the Bernabeu.

The French centre-back has won 16 trophies since joining Madrid in 2011, including four Champions Leagues and two Spanish league titles.

Football agent Bruno Satin, who represents several French players, says he has been in contact with Anthony Varane, the Madrid defender’s brother and agent, and it’s been made clear that he is contemplating moving on from the Bernabeu in order to seek new challenges.

“I spoke recently with Anthony, Raphael’s brother, so we discussed a little bit about the state of the market, so to speak,” Satin said. “So I think at this moment in his career he is having a profound reflection, I don’t think he has fully decided to leave Real Madrid, but he is thinking about it.

“Because he has won everything that you can at Real Madrid, because he feels like he has the feeling that he has done what was to be done over there, and there could be a new cycle. Aside from that, I have not spoken directly with Raphael myself.”

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted Manchester United considering defensive signing in transfer window during his press conference on Monday morning.

"I think Chris [Smalling] and Phil [Jones], Victor [Lindelof] and Eric [Bailly], Marcos [Rojo] - there's five centre-backs there for you," Solskjaer said. "When they are at the top of their game, they are all high quality.

"You could see from Phil’s programme that he was really fit and he played really well [against Watford], Chris has come back in and done really well. Victor will hopefully be ready again now. He is ready. I will probably bring him [for Tuesday's game against Wolves].

"But we're looking at all positions all the time and if there is any dip in the form or attitude in players, but I have to say the attitude of all those five have been brilliant."

Senior United sources previously claimed the club is prepared to spend £100million on the right profile of defender, with Varane cited as an example.

Varane is contracted to Real Madrid until 2022.
