Manchester United transfer target Donny van de Beek to attract interest from more clubs, says agent of Ajax star

The agent of Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek says he still believes the Ajax star will get a transfer this summer, despite the impact coronavirus may have on the transfer market economy.

Van de Beek was one of the stars of Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19, but remained in place at the Amsterdam Arena while Frenkie de Jong and Mathijs de Ligt moved to new clubs last summer.

His agent, Guido Albers, says that there will be new clubs interested in signing the attack-minded, free-scoring midfielder, due to an expectation of lowered transfer fees, with clubs probably unwilling to shell out the massive fees which have been seen in previous summers.

“It will all be different, but I also have to be realistic,” he said to Voetbal International.

“It also creates opportunities at clubs that perhaps thought they had no chance anymore and are now knocking on the door. I’m not worried about Donny.”

Until now, the biggest speculation has surrounded a move for Van de Beek to Real Madrid, though he rejected the notion he had already agreed a move earlier this year. Manchester United and Chelsea have also been mentioned as potential destinations.

Albers confirmed that clubs were looking at the 22-year-old and, despite not naming those involved, was optimistic about a firm move being made this year—whenever the transfer market reopens.

“The interest has been, and that is also known, for a long time and from several clubs. We will see what will come out of that in the coming weeks. I dare not say anything about it at the moment.

“I can’t say anything about it because a number of things are just confidential. The situation will have changed per club and we have to look closely at that.”

Van de Beek has scored 10 goals so far this season and netted 17 in all competitions last year, though is yet to score for the Dutch national team.
