Ian Wright has slammed Manchester United's owners for their transfer strategy and for having "no plan" after splashing out on big money signings Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho.
The United duo, the former in particular, have failed to be integrated into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's system and, as a result, are paying the price with lack of game and, subsequently, omission from their respective national teams.
Sancho arrived in the summer while the Dutchman arrived last year but continue to be the standout names from the recent crisis as they fail to fit in with the Norwegian's style and tactics, with United's recent dismal run stretching to one win in six after the defeat to Manchester City.
As such, Wright labelled the situation unravelling at Old Trafford as "so sad".
He told The Ringer: "I feel like what’s going on with Man United, I think it’s a testament, well it’s not a testament, it’s a fallacy from the people upstairs and what they’re doing with someone like Jadon Sancho, who they’ve pursued continuously.
"They’ve got no plan for him to go in the team. It’s the same as if any other business spent money that flailingly (SIC), £40m on Donny van de Beek, £73m to £75m on Jadon Sancho and they’re not playing.
"You [Man United] haven’t even got a system, playing wing-backs, you’re buying wingers. Oh my gosh, it is so sad."
Both Sancho and van de Beek missed the cut for England and the Netherlands' international squads for the final round of World Cup qualifiers.
