Manchester United transfer news: Rio Ferdinand criticises Paulo Dybala for rejecting Old Trafford move

Rio Ferdinand has claimed Paulo Dybala doesn’t have “the right minerals” for Manchester United after the Juventus star rejected a move to Old Trafford this month.

The Argentine opted against leaving Turin, for now, with links to Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

The Serie A champions were strongly linked to Romelu Lukaku with Dybala floated as a counterpart before the Belgian eventually signed with Antonio Conte’s Inter.

Dybala stood firm, despite uncertainty over his role under Maurizio Sarri, leading Ferdinand to criticise him for having the “audacity” to reject Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side given his predicament.

“A lot of players have declined coming to Man United in recent years. They’ve chosen somewhere else,” Ferdinand told the Daily Star.

“But I don’t know how Dybala had the audacity to turn them down when he’s on the bench at Juventus. He needs to start playing some football.

“Maybe he’s thinking: “I want to be Champions League or I’ll sit on the bench. I’d rather do that than play at Man United.

“Well, I’m happy he didn’t come then because you haven’t got the right minerals that I want in a Man United player!”

Solskjaer’s side strolled to a 4-0 win in their opening weekend match against Chelsea, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard starting as the front three.

With Lukaku’s move to Inter finalised last week, Solskjaer will turn to Mason Greenwood as one of his back-ups.
