Manchester United transfer news: Paul Pogba will stay but there are no guarantees, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident that Paul Pogba will still be a Manchester United player next season, though admitted that nothing is guaranteed in football.

Pogba’s future at Old Trafford has come under an increasing amount of speculation in recent months following interest from Real Madrid.

The midfielder remains the club’s record signing following his £89m arrival from Juventus in 2016 and United’s hierarchy are determined to keep him in Manchester.

Solskjaer wants Pogba to stay too and believes he will, though admitted that circumstances can change quickly.

“You can’t guarantee anything in football but yes I think Paul is going to be here,” Solskjaer said. ”I can assure you that he is very determined to be successful at United.”

Pogba’s performances have attracted criticism of late amid a poor run of form for United, who have lost seven of their last nine games under Solskjaer.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s visit from Chelsea, the Norwegian defended Pogba, suggesting that he is held to a higher standard because of his talent and profile.

“That’s just the standards he sets, because when he’s creating chances, scoring goals, doing loads of work... that’s just media, supporters, everyone looks to Paul. ‘Could you have done better?’

“He’s done fantastic for us, he’s a human being as well and we’re all the same, we want him to do well.

“He’s a leader in that dressing room and on the pitch for us. Back to if I can guarantee, I would say yes, I can guarantee but in life you can never [know], but he will be here as far as I’m concerned.”
