Manchester United transfer news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'positive' on David De Gea new contract negotiations

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful David De Gea will commit his future to Manchester United and sign a contract extension.

The Spanish goalkeeper endured a tough spell of form last season, but the club are still eager for him to extend his spell at Old Trafford with just a year remaining on his current deal.

De Gea is holding out for terms that could make him the highest paid player at the club on as much as £500,000 per week.

Yet Solskjaer, who is set to lead United in their pre-season opener in Perth this Saturday, remains optimistic about a deal being struck.

“David has had a summer where he’s been negotiating and we hope we’re going to get it sorted,” Solskjaer said.

“I’m positive. Of course, with David I’ve said many times how lucky I am and happy we are to have him in goal.”

Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez, who picked up an injury with Chile at the Copa America, is expected to resume training on schedule after his holiday.

“I don’t think Alexis’s injury was too bad,” added Solskjaer.

“When he’s due back in three weeks, I would expect him to be fit to train straight away.”
