Manchester United 'tracking' Denis Zakaria as Rio Ferdinand 'questions' Marcus Rashford

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories that you might have missed.

Manchester United are beginning to get linked to a host of players, and one person who continues to get mentioned with a move is Borussia Monchengladbach's Denis Zakaria. Ralf Rangnick is reportedly interested in his services.

After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Wolves at Old Trafford, attention has turned to the aftermath and what needs to be done to improve United. Rio Ferdinand discussed the defeat on his YouTube channel and talked about the issues around Marcus Rashford and his recent performances.

United need to make a statement to show the world they mean business, but they don't appear close to any new additions. However, a player they've been linked with in the past is being touted for a £25million move to the club.

United' tracking' Denis Zakaria

Since the January transfer window is now open, it's expected that Manchester United will be active in the market, and based on the performance against Wolves, I think they need to be.

One area that needs significant improvement is the midfield, as supporters have been crying out for the club to move for a central defensive midfielder. It appears an opportunity may have swung in their direction.

According to The Mirror, Denis Zakaria, Borussia Monchengladbach's holding midfielder, is Ralf Rangnick's preferred midfield target. The club is reportedly tracking him, despite reported interest from Liverpool, Barcelona, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

The report adds that Zakaria is a free agent at the end of the season, but United could pay what it takes to prise him away. He's the 'most likely' addition this winter.

Opinion: I think United should go for someone like Zakaria. While he isn't everyone's preferred choice, he could be picked up as a bargain and be a valuable team player. It's a low-risk signing with potentially high rewards.

Ferdinand' questions' Marcus Rashford

There are a lot of problems at the moment at Manchester United, with many players underperforming in a red shirt.

One of those players is Marcus Rashford, who hasn't looked himself in the last few weeks, and supporters are beginning to question what the problem is.

The issue was raised in Rio Ferdinand's 'Vibe with Five' YouTube channel, and he's claimed that Rashford isn't playing like the man we 'all love.'

He said: "How are we going to get a fiery, hungry Rashford we saw when he burst onto the scene? I haven't seen that Rashford for weeks, for a few months now.

"His excuse before and fair enough he was carrying a shoulder injury, so you give him benefit of the doubt.

"But since he's come back, his body language, he hasn't looked like the Marcus we fell in love with and we all love, that someone who's aggressive, runs at people, and every time he gets it he wants to hurt the opposition."

Opinion: I think Rio is spot on with his comments and shares the views of a lot of United fans. We all want him to be back at his best, but at the moment, he looks miles off the pace.

United' prepared to pay' for World Cup winner

Manchester United seem to get linked to many players when the transfer windows open. Now they have been linked with a move for a player they were tipped to sign in the past.

That's 2018 World Cup Winner, Ousmane Dembele, and Italian outlet, Corriere dello Sport, have reported that negotiations have started with United and Barcelona. They are prepared to pay a fee of 30 million euros (£25million) to take him to Old Trafford.

It also adds that United is willing to allow Anthony Martial, who has been linked to Sevilla, to play for Barca on loan until the end of the season.

Opinion: I think it would be a massive mistake if United bought Dembele. It's too risky, and the club doesn't need that. He has quality, but he's permanently injured.
