Manchester United top Premier League ranking in two key club trained player categories

Manchester United have secured top spot among Premier League clubs in a European table which ranks the amount of professional footballers that teams have trained.

CIES Football Observatory has established the rankings of the best training clubs for players active in the big five European league, which includes the Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga and the Serie A.

Real Madrid land top spot among European clubs with 39 footballers trained, up three from last year. The Spanish giants outrank their rivals Barcelona, who have 34, while Lyon come in third with 30.

United are fourth on 28 and are the top Premier League club in the ranking, according to CIES. Chelsea sit sixth in the list, while Arsenal are the only other English side in the top 15.

Another club-trained category which United have topped is the percentage of minutes that players trained by the club have played this season, per CIES .

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has chosen to blood youngsters from the academy this season, while the team is also made up of plenty of former youth graduates.

United, therefore, have a high percentage of 37.4, something which is far clear of Tottenham and Chelsea. Liverpool in comparison have a percentage of 9.1.

It's promising that so many young players are being given an opportunity but Solskjaer will also want results to improve moving forward on the field as well as United look to climb the Premier League table.
