Manchester United told why Erling Haaland will sign for Liverpool or Man City

Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen disagree over where Erling Haaland will move next - although both pundits stand firm that it won't be Manchester United.

The 21-year-old has only played once since the start of October - due to a hip flexor injury - but remains one of the hottest properties in Europe.

Indeed, the Norway sensation has scored a staggering 70 goals in 69 games since he signed for the Bundesliga side in January 2020.

That race for his signature involved United and there is set to be another almighty scramble for Haaland when they get down to business with Europe's elite next summer.

Deals for Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo were sanctioned in time for this season and Sancho's former teammate is understood to have a release clause around the £64million mark.

Even with astronomical wages, that is keeping those big boys from across the continent on red alert.

However, on the back of welcoming Ronaldo to Old Trafford for a second act, it's advantage to their two main rivals when it comes to signing Haaland - according to BT Sport pundits and ex-United players Ferdinand and Owen.

Ferdinand said: " I think Liverpool for him. If I was Liverpool, I'd take him right now and that would be a devastating front-three. I don't think it would be hard for him to adapt. Not many players go to City and adapt instantly."

Owen added: " Manchester City for him I think. He just suits them. I don't think Salah would score as many goals if Haaland was in the team. I would think City would be the likeliest.

"I'm not sure if there's bad blood between Haaland's agent [Mino Raiola] and his dad [Alf Inge] playing against Roy Keane that would stop a move to United. I'm not sure if it would fit.

"Chelsea have signed [Romelu] Lukaku, so that wouldn't fit. Personally, I think City."
