Manchester United great Teddy Sheringham compares Paul Pogba and Roy Keane

Teddy Sheringham has insisted Manchester United must sell Paul Pogba and replace him with a leader in the mould of Roy Keane.

Speculation over Pogba's future at Old Trafford remains, with the Frenchman entering the final year of his contract, although the club have the option to add a further year.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer previously spoke about the need for a 'cultural reset' at the club and Sheringham believes that Pogba should be sold as a result.

The former United striker believes the World Cup winner doesn't possess the characteristics needed to lead the club forward and compared him with Keane.

"The big one for me is Pogba. There's been a lot of talk about him," Sheringham told The Football Show on Sky Sports.

"You mention about captains, when things weren't going right in our time, Roy Keane would make things right. He would drive our team, he would dig deep and he would make sure we had a say in every game he played in because of his desire.

"When you look at Paul Pogba, does he have the same mentality? Yes he might be a talented boy but he really dig deep, does he get Manchester United out of the mire when the going gets tough?

"For me, he gives off the wrong vibe as a Manchester United. Yes, it's good to be cocky at the right time, Dwight Yorke was cocky and arrogant but he had the desire to do things right as well at the right time.

"You've got to have that and I don't think Paul Pogba gives you that. I think he would be one that needs to go so you can get someone else in who has the right mentality, the right desire, the Manchester United way to drive the team on to make sure you get out the position you're in and move the club forward."
