Manchester United told to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but not with Mauricio Pochettino

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under serious pressure at Old Trafford.

United have lost three of their last four Premier League games and sit six points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea in the race for a Champions League spot.

Solskjaer is the 5/4 favourite to be the next manager to lose his job in the Premier League and unless he manages to turn the club's fortunes around it would appear to be a case of when, rather than if he is given his marching orders.

Plenty of high-profile bosses have been linked with succeeding him at the Old Trafford helm, but none have been as strongly linked as former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Jose Mourinho explains Danny Rose absence amid transfer rumours

Pochettino did a terrific job in north London, getting Spurs into the Champions League four seasons in a row on a tight budget in comparison with the rest of the big six in the Premier League.

But his magic ran out this season, with an overhaul of the squad that he wanted not coming and he was sacked to be replaced by former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

Pochettino remains out of work and the suggestion is that United would make him their number one target if and when they do relieve Solskjaer of his position.

United were linked with Pochettino when Mourinho was sacked, but could not prise him away from Spurs then and opted for Solskjaer instead.

Now nothing would stand in their way, although one former Chelsea player believes they should go for Pochettino's mentor, rather than the ex-Spurs boss.

Speaking on TalkSport, Tony Cascarino said: "He’s flavour of the month, Poch.  But I’d have Bielsa over Poch every day of the week at Man United. Yeah I would yeah.

"I think it’s unbelievable what he’s achieved at Leeds."

Leeds are currently second in the Championship and well placed to earn promotion to the Premier League this season.
