Manchester United told to hijack Kieran Trippier to Newcastle transfer

Manchester United have been advised to hijack Kieran Trippier's move to Newcastle.

The former Tottenham man is close to agreeing a move to St James' Park in the January transfer window.

United previously showed interest in Trippier last summer, but were put off by Atletico Madrid's £25million valuation of a then 30-year-old player who was in the final year of his contract.

Speaking on Andy Goldstein's talkSPORT show, former Sunderland striker Darren Bent insisted that United should put in a late offer this month, as Trippier 'would not choose Newcastle instead'.

"We don't know how much interest is there from elsewhere," Bent commented.

"But if you look at the Manchester United situation with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, I have no issues with him in one-to-one defending, but positionally he can get caught out.

"If you asked Kieran Trippier if he would rather play for Newcastle or Manchester United, even in the state (Manchester) United are in now, you are not going to choose Newcastle over them.

"He has got to go to United, it is the biggest club in the world.

"One of these clubs is fighting to get into the top four, the other is just trying to stay in the league."

Chronicle Live reported that the Bury-born full-back had been pictured landing near Newcastle ahead of signing for the Magpies.
