Ruud Gullit has advised Manchester United to complete a deal to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano and to beat Arsenal to his services.
The French defender, widely regarded as one of the best young players in his position, caught the eye in midweek as the Bundesliga side defeated Atletico Madrid to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Arsenal have regularly been attributed with an interest in Upamecano but they are unable to offer Champions League football next season, which could be a major stumbling block.
However, United do not have that same issue and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a defender, with Gullit stating Upamecano should be a target.
"[What] Was the first thing [Jurgen] Klopp did with Liverpool?
"He bought a good defence. He bought a goalkeeper and good defenders because everything starts there," he told BeIN Sports.
"And I think Man United should start there as well.
"I saw something amazing with Leipzig and Dayot Upamecano. He was outstanding [against Atletico Madrid].
"He can play football, he’s hard in the tackle. Defence is what I would start if I was Man United."
