Manchester United told to appoint former Liverpool manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes Brendan Rodgers is a 'no brainer' replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if United decide to sack him.

The United boss is under increasing pressure following Sunday's 5-0 thumping from Liverpool and the club are considering dismissing him before their clash against Spurs this weekend.

Speculation is already growing in the media over a potential replacement for Solskjaer, but the former Liverpool manager should be in the running, according to Collymore

"For me, the Leicester boss fits every criteria for what’s required at Old Trafford," he wrote in The Mirror.

"Ole may still be given more time at the wheel but the juggernaut that is arguably the biggest club in the world is in danger of proving way too heavy for him to control.

"And if the wheels do come off then it’s a no brainer to go out and get The Foxes boss.

"The United board would have to completely get out of their heads Rodgers’ Liverpool connection."

Rodgers was appointed Leicester City manager in February 2019 and has taken them to two top five finishes so far.

Antonio Conte is ‘open’ to making a return to the Premier League, as reported by The Manchester Evening News, but he has reservations over the structure at United.

Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is also among the rumoured targets, while Rodgers is second favourite for the job, according to the bookmakers.

Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho as caretaker manager in December 2018 and was given the permanent position a few months later.

After a positive start to life in the Old Trafford dugout, recent form has left widespread concern over Solskjaer's suitability moving forward.
