Manchester United told they have finally solved Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba dilemma

Robbie Savage says Manchester United's victory over Fulham shows Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes can play together in midfield.

United came from behind to beat the Cottagers, with Edinson Cavani cancelling out Ademola Lookman's early opener before Pogba scored the winner in the second half with a brilliantly curled effort.

Pogba's goal continued his excellent recent form, with the midfielder scoring a similarly-fine strike to beat Burnley last week.

There has often been some debate over whether Pogba and Fernandes can play in the same team when United need some added presence in midfield in bigger matches.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives verdict on Paul Pogba's performance against Fulham

For example, Pogba started on the right-wing in United's goalless draw against Liverpool at Anfield last weekend, with Scott McTominay and Fred playing behind Fernandes.

Yet Savage believes the two can play together with Pogba occupying a deeper role.

Speaking post-match on BT Sport, Savage pointed to the fact Pogba occupied similar positions to holding midfielder Fred but was still able to score his goal against Fulham as evidence that he can play a box-to-box role.

He said: "I think tonight has proven that he can play with Fernandes, but the big thing is, can he play as a ‘six’ in the bigger games with Fernandes as the ‘10’? I think he can, I think he’s shown that tonight.

"This is not Liverpool or Man City, it’s Fulham away, who are doing okay.

"His average position was as far back as Fred, so that says to me that he can do that role, get around the pitch and score goals from that position."
