Manchester United have been told that their midfielder is ‘screaming out’ for a midfielder in the mould of Everton man Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The midfielder has had an impressive start to the season under Rafa Benitez and was one of Everton’s top performers in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday, providing the pass for Andros Townsend to equalise in the second half.
His performance has come as questions have been asked about United’s midfield and the options available to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Fred are among the central midfielders available to the United boss.
However, TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has highlighted Doucoure as someone who would be the perfect fit into the Red Devils’ midfield.
“I can’t think of a better midfielder at the moment than Doucoure in the Premier League, the way he’s playing in this advanced role, he’s playing brilliantly, he’s really playing well,” he said.
“Look at United’s midfield and you sort of think that’s what they’re screaming out for, a Doucoure type of midfielder.”
The Everton man was also praised by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.
“Abdoulaye Doucoure has been one of the standout players in @premierleague this season,” he wrote on Twitter following the game against United.
The 28-year-old has been at Everton since the summer of 2020 after moving from Watford following their relegation from the Premier League.
