Manchester United 'told Kai Havertz asking price' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United will have to pay £90million if they want to sign Kai Havertz, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to enhance his attacking options this summer in the hope of mounting a serious Premier League title challenge next season with a winger, centre-midfielder and playmaker on his list of priorities.

While M.E.N. Sport understands that Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish remains United's primary target for the playmaker role, Havertz has emerged as an intriguing opton.

The 21-year-old, as reported by M.E.N. Sport, would be open to a move to Old Trafford this summer and United have been impressed with his sublime form in the Bundesliga, which has seen him score 15 times.

However, Bayer Leverkusen aren't prepared to let their prized asset go on the cheap and, as reported by the Express, they will demand £90m for him.

It's claimed that Chelsea are hoping to win the race for his signature but their bid currently falls short of Leverkusen's valuation and they they're unwilling to pay more than £75m. It means that, the report states, the door could be left open for United or Liverpool to swoop in and sign the talented German.

However, such a big move may be beyond United's capability as well as Ed Woodward has warned that following the coronavirus pandemic "it may not be 'business as usual' for any clubs, including ourselves, in the transfer market this summer" and that speculation of big money moves "seems to ignore the realities that face the sport".

Meanwhile, reports elsewhere suggest that United will instead make a move for Ajax star Donny van de Beek this summer.

United great and Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar has confirmed United's interest in the versatile midfielder and, the Daily Star reports, that United could swoop in and sign him from under the nose of Real Madrid.

However, it's claimed that the club will sell Andreas Pereira to raise funds for the move and create more space in the squad.
