Manchester United told how to fix midfield 'problem' without making a signing

Manchester United handing the keys to Paul Pogba could provide the catalyst for a top-four finish this season.

That's the verdict from pundit Chris Kamara, who has identified the World Cup winner and Bruno Fernandes as the potential driving force as Ralf Rangnick aims to secure Champions League qualification for next term.

With their Premier League title hopes left in tatters before the November international break, winning silverware is still a possibility in the FA Cup - after last night's win over Aston Villa - and the marquee European competition.

However, while returning five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo has already scored 14 goals since touching down for his second act, it has been claimed there are two more important players to the cause.

Pogba has not played for United since he picked up a thigh injury while on duty for France two months ago - and a central midfielder remains the club's transfer priority.

The 28-year-old is also out of contract this summer as speculation over his future continues. Assisting four goals during an opening-day win against rivals Leeds United, the academy graduate shone alongside hat-trick hero Fernandes on that occasion, but has struggled to make an impact since.

Speaking to the Express, pundit Kamara said: "I still think United need a central midfielder, or get Pogba back to his best and give him license to run the team. When he plays for France, Pogba is such a key player.

"Him and Fernandes playing at the top of their game would be incredible for Man United.

"Those two in central midfield would be as good as most teams have got and I think that's what they need."
