Manchester United told David Moyes possesses quality Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lacks

Pat Nevin has praised David Moyes for playing to his side's strengths and named Manchester United as a side that fail to do that after the Hammers overcame Liverpool on Sunday.

An uninspiring United were calmly brushed aside by their rivals Manchester City at the weekend as their 2-0 defeat ensured the misery continued at Old Trafford with Solskjaer going into the international break under more scrutiny.

After a disappointing run of form, the Reds have changed systems, converting to 3-4-1-2 or a 5-3-2 to offer more protection at the back, but still lacking an identity as the Norwegian edges towards his third-year anniversary at the club.

On the other hand, West Ham are enjoying a brilliant start to the Premier League season as they sit third, and just three points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.

Moyes was axed as United boss in 2014, after just 10 months in charge, as he failed to fill the void left by Sir Alex Ferguson who stepped down after a trophy-laden spell at the helm.

The Scottish manager endured mediocre stints in charge of Real Sociedad and Sunderland following his time at United, but has since found his feet at the London Stadium with West Ham fighting on the European front in the Europa League.

Solskjaer continues to tread carefully however after Pep Guardiola's side breezed past United in a comfortable fashion.

As such, Nevin speaking to Off The Ball highlighted what he feels Moyes possesses that the Norwegian lacks.

"[He has] Put together what looks like a phenomenal looking outfit and they're good at what they do," Nevin said.

"They're not a lump it into the middle team, that's not what they are. They're far more than that but he's got so much out everyone that's with him and then use that physicality.

"Knowing that they're not good at certain things, they don't do it. They know Kurt Zouma is not going to play out from the back so they don't ask him to do it. They just do something else.

"You watch the likes of Manchester United, you mention him [David Moyes] and them in the same breath - they try and play out from the back and they can't, against teams that are not good enough to play out from the back from.

"That's a really intriguing thing. You look at the guy and they're good at set-pieces and they work on that. He knows that's the strength they're fantastic at."
