Manchester United told Cristiano Ronaldo 'will be at the club next season'

One of Cristiano Ronaldo's former Manchester United teammates has claimed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will still be at Old Trafford next season.

Recent reports have suggested that the 37-year-old would leave United at the end of the campaign should they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

It was claimed that the club's hierarchy would be left with little choice but to agree to his wishes if they weren't in the elite European competition in 2022/23.

However, former teammate Wes Brown believes Ronaldo will remain a part of the squad no matter where they finish in the league this season.

Brown, speaking on behalf of 888sport, said: "Cristiano Ronaldo is a true professional but it doesn’t matter where he goes he’s going to get stick regardless.

"I’m happy he came back because he’s a great addition to the squad with his experience and his professionalism.

"A lot of people look at how he works and how he is away from the game, how he treats himself. He has won so many things and he’s a senior player in that team, so he will be one of those who speaks up.

"I hope he’s still there next season. He saved us quite a lot when he first arrived, scoring some crucial goals in both the league and in Europe. I honestly do feel he will be there next season."

Ronaldo has scored 15 goals since returning to United but had to wait until the recent win over Brighton to score his first goal of 2022.
