Manchester United 'to target Premier League midfielder as Ander Herrera replacement'

Manchester United will do battle with Paris Saint-Germain for the Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye this summer, according to reports.

United lost Ander Herrera after failing to agree a deal with the 29-year-old, whose five-year United career came to an end after United's defeat by Cardiff on Sunday.

Gueye, also 29, is reported by the Mail to have played his last game for Everton, with the Merseysiders said to be keen to collect around £40 million for a player with three years remaining on his Goodison Park contract.

United are reported to view Gueye as being capable of bringing out the best of Paul Pogba in a role similar to that played by N'Golo Kanté at the 2018 World Cup with France.

Meanwhile, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reported by the Express to have been left unconvinced by Romelu Lukaku, with PSG a possible destination this summer.

The 26-year-old forward, who has scored 15 goals in 45 appearances for United this season, is thought to be open to a move away from Old Trafford.

Inter Milan are thought to be monitoring the situation, and United will look to recoup most of the £90 million with which they dispensed for the Belgium international in 2017.

In other United transfer rumours, reports in Italy suggest United could strike a swap deal with Juventus to move Alexis Sanchez on in return for Paulo Dybala.

Man City should thank Manchester United great Sir Alex Ferguson

Football Italia claim talks are ongoing between United officials and Juventus' sporting director, Fabio Paratici.

Dybala has started just 29 games for Juventus this season and is said to be unhappy with a shortage of opportunities in Turin.

Sanchez, meanwhile, has failed to live up to expectations since his move to United from Arsenal last January, with the Chile international scoring five goals in 45 United appearances to date.
