Manchester United to rival Liverpool FC for Ben White and more transfer rumours

Manchester United will rival Liverpool and Chelsea to sign Brighton defender Ben White this summer - according to reports.

White played a starring role for Leeds in their successful bid to return to the Premier League and has reportedly caught the eye of all the Premier League's top clubs.

Leeds are desperate to sign White permanently but have already seen an £18million offer rebuffed for the defender. Brighton are believed to want around £50m for the 22-year-old.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City have also been named as potential suitors for the youngster and The Sun claim United are the latest top side to join the race for his signature.

White would fit the profile of player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to bring to Old Trafford this summer but the United boss has admitted he is currently happy with his options at the back.

Elsewhere, three clubs have shown an interest in signing Chris Smalling in the current transfer window, reports claim.

Smalling returned to United following a one-year spell with AS Roma but is believed to be keen on remaining in Italy.

Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport report Roma remain interested in the former England international and could revive their interest following a successful takeover of the club.

Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte is also listed as an admirer of the 29-year-old and views him as an ideal partner for Milan Skriniar in defence.

Finally, Newcastle United are believed to keen to keep Smalling in England. The report claims United may be forced to reduce their asking price in order to offload the defender this summer.
