Manchester United to 'pay off' David de Gea, Erling Haaland alternative and more transfer rumours

Erling Haaland continues to dominate the back pages with the transfer rumour mill in full swing.

The Borussia Dortmund striker is a transfer priority for both Manchester United and Manchester City, MEN Sport understands.

Sergio Aguero 's impending departure at the Etihad Stadium has only strengthened those links, whilst United have several big decision to make themselves, not least in the goalkeeping department.

Pau Torres and Ben White are two defensive reinforcements on the shortlist, whilst the battle between David de Gea and Dean Henderson must be resolved.

Here's a round-up of the latest stories filling the never-ending vortex that is the transfer rumour mill.

United to m ake De Gea decision

The Mirror report that Manchester United are set to pay-off De Gea and make Henderson their number one goalkeeper.

The Spaniard has been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first-choice all season but the pressure is mounting for Henderson to take the spot.

The report states that United value De Gea, 30, at £50million but are concerned that his wages will put off any potential suitor in a cash-strapped market and have acknowledged they may have to pay a proportion of his salary.

Ahead of United's match against Brighton, Solskjaer said that both goalkeepers will play their part in United's remaining games this season.

"I have the great option of two top goalkeepers," said the United boss.

"It's a pleasure to have them around here.

"We hopefully have nine plus five games to go - we want to go all the way in the Europa League as well. I'm sure you'll see both of them playing in goal for us."

United plan Haaland contingency

Manchester United will target a cut-price deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi if they fail to sign Haaland.

Gazzetta Dello Sport (via TEAMtalk ) claim that United could move for the Argentine, who has scored five goals and laid on four assists in 15 league appearances this season.

PSG will reportedly listen to offers of between €30m and €40m for the 28-year-old with Icardi failing to hit the same heights in Ligue 1 as he did at Inter.
