Manchester United to leave four transfer-listed stars out of pre-season tour as squad overhaul looms

Ruben Amorim will leave Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony out of Manchester United’s preseason tour of the United States as they look for moves away from Old Trafford.

The Portuguese is facing a comprehensive overhaul of his squad after a challenging campaign saw them finish 15th in the Premier League and lose to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

He has wasted little time in deciding which players will be cut out of his long-term plans, targeting a new look attack as he placed Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho, and Antony up for sale.

According to reports in The Sun, United hope to sell the quartet early in the summer, and they will be left to train individually at the Carrington training ground should they fail to find a move before the Red Devils fly out for preseason.

Amorim hopes to ‘shape the team in his image’ with players who buy into his footballing philosophy. He is also keen to work with a smaller, more focused group.

Rashford was sent on loan to Aston Villa after Amorim deemed his training work rate substandard.

Sancho, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea, publicly fell out with Erik ten Hag after facing similar criticisms. He eyed a permanent Chelsea switch but failed to agree a salary package, while Rashford is reportedly chasing a move to a Champions League side.

Antony, signed from Ajax for an eye-watering £86million in 2022, impressed on loan at Real Betis last season, reaching the Conference League final. The club are prepared to take a significant loss on their initial investment to get him off the books.

Garnacho, 20, showed flashes of class last season but was ultimately let down by a lack of attacking output, scoring just seven goals in 51 Premier League and Europa League appearances. He has drawn interest from Chelsea, who considered a move in January.

Amorim’s attacking rebuild has already begun after Matheus Cunha’s £62.5m arrival from Wolves was confirmed last week. United are also thought to be close to agreeing a deal for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.

The American leg of United’s preseason tour will see them face West Ham, Everton, and Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series before facing Leeds in Sweden and Fiorentina at Old Trafford. They have already held post-season friendlies in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, losing to the ASEAN All-Stars before downing the Hong Kong national side.
