Manchester United to face Rochdale in Carabao Cup round three

Manchester United will face League One side Rochdale at Old Trafford in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will take on Brian Barry-Murphy's Dale side during the week of September 23, looking to progress further than last season's exit to Derby County at the same stage of the competition.

Then managed by Jose Mourinho, United were defeated on penalties to Championship outfit Derby - the second time in as many seasons United were knocked out by lower league opposition.

Having seen off Burton Albion in 2017/18, United were then beaten by Bristol City at Ashton Gate, failing to defend the trophy they won under Mourinho the previous season.

This season, United will hope to win their first trophy under Solskjaer, and victory at Wembley in the Carabao Cup in March would also end rivals Manchester City's domestic dominance in recent years.

Rochdale have started well in League One, and took Tottenham to an FA Cup replay in 2018 after an entertaining 2-2 draw at Spotland.

Elsewhere in the third round draw, City face Preston, while Arsenal take on Nottingham Forest. The Gunners visit Old Trafford on Friday September 30.
