Manchester United to face Real Sociedad in Turin as Covid chaos hits Europa League clash

UEFA have confirmed that Manchester United will face Real Sociedad in Turin after travel restrictions barred the Red Devils from flying to Spain.

The sides meet in the Europa League last 32 first leg on February 18 but the coronavirus pandemic complicated matters.

Flights to Spain from the UK are banned, and under UEFA's protocols it was left to the hosts to find an alternate venue.

The match will now be played in Turin at the home of Juventus behind closed doors.

A statement announced: "UEFA can confirm that the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 first leg match between Real Sociedad de Fútbol and Manchester United FC will now take place at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.

"The date of the match (18 February 2021) and kick-off time (18:55CET) will remain the same.

"UEFA would like to thank Real Sociedad de Futbol and Manchester United FC for their close cooperation and assistance in finding a solution to the issue at hand, as well as the Italian Football Federation and Juventus for their support and agreeing to host the match in question."

Rangers take on Royal Antwerp in Belgium on the same day but that's currently scheduled to go ahead as planned.
