Manchester United to add two players to Premier League squad after transfer deadline day

Manchester United will not make any deadline day signings and will add Phil Jones to their Premier League squad for the second half of the season.

United have placed an emphasis on outgoings in the winter window, with Timothy Fosu-Mensah sold to Bayer Leverkusen and Marcos Rojo expected to complete a permanent switch to Boca Juniors.

Jesse Lingard has joined West Ham on loan and teenage forward Facundo Pellistri has been loaned to La Liga strugglers Alaves until the end of the season.

Amad Diallo completed his £37million transfer from Atalanta and is expected to make his first-team debut this month and, with rookie centre-back Teden Mengi on the verge of a loan switch to Championship side Derby County, Jones will be considered for selection.

"I can confirm there won't be anyone coming in, so don't stay up late," Solskjaer confirmed. "Phil has been recovering from a knee injury, an operation he had, and he's working hard to be available again. He will be included on the list and hopefully he'll get his fitness back sooner rather than later and be available to play."

"We've made decisions we feel have been good for individuals and for us as well. With the young players moving on, with [James] Garner, [Tahith] Chong, Mengi and Pellistri getting the chance to play more football has been important for us.

"And our group is a tight-knit group, we don't have too many players in excess and hopefully Jesse can get going and play well at West Ham as well."

Jones, 29 this month, has been injured since June and not played for United in over a year. His contract expires in 2023.
