Manchester United tickets and a cardboard Gary Barlow - The bizarre things left behind in Travelodge rooms in Manchester last year

If there's one thing you should do before you leave a hotel it is to do a reccce of the room to check you have everything.

Toothbrush? Check. Clothes? Check. Purse or wallet? Check.

But what about Manchester United tickets, Gary Barlow and a Taj Mahal wedding cake?

These are just a few of the bizarre things Travelodge bosses have revealed have been left behind in their Manchester hotels.

And let's just go back and simply ask, Gary Barlow?

It wasn't in fact the real Take That star but a cardboard cut out. Still, what a surprise for the hotel staff.

Other unusual forgotten items include a 30year-old autograph book left at the Manchester Arena branch.

It was left by a guest who was dedicated dedicated to philography – and collecting celebrity autographs.

However, it ended up being quite the return journey as the guest had to travel from the Netherlands to get the precious book which they left when they attended a concert at the Arena.

Also making the list was £5k of casino chips, a diamond watch, a drag queen outfit and even a Manifesto - what for? We're not sure.

Whilst the Manchester list was a little bizarre, it stepped up a level when you look across the UK.

In Stratford Upon Avon, somebody left behind a pair of Alpacas called Ant & Dec and somebody must have been in deep panic as a Tiffany engagement ring was left behind at the London Central Travelodge.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokeswoman said: "With nearly 19 million customers annually staying at our 571 UK hotels including, nine in Manchester, for thousands of different reasons, we do get a range of interesting items left behind.

"This year's audit includes: a pair of Alpacas called Ant & Dec, a 65 year old luck Bonsai tree, an Aston Martin, a dissertation, a gingerbread village with residents and a precious 30 year old celebrity autograph book.

"Interestingly our hotel teams have reported a rise in wedding and proposal props being left behind in our hotels in 2019. This included a 5ft floral unicorn, a huge full moon, a flower wall, palm trees, a Tiffany engagement ring and even a best man."
