Manchester United tickets: A complete guide on how to attend the team's fixtures at Old Trafford

Often regarded as the world’s biggest football club, for decades Manchester United have attracted fans from up and down the UK, and across the globe.

They have called Old Trafford, now Britian’s biggest club ground, their home for more than a century.

However getting hold of tickets for the 74,310 capacity stadium, dubbed the Theatre of Dreams, can be less than simple.

So whether you’re a fan who has not been for a while, or a visitor wanting to buy tickets for family or friends, we have all the information you’ll need to book your seat to see the 20 times league champions in action.

Where are they sold?

There are two main ways in which tickets to United games are sold.

The first and main one is now online via the club’s website https://tickets.manutd.com/ or email ticketingandmembershipservices@manutd.co.uk for enquiries.

Tickets can also be purchased over the phone by calling 0161 676 7770

Where can I stay?

Check out all available accommodation in the surrounding area through the map below.

If you'd prefer, you may prefer to look at hotels within Manchester city centre and travel to Old Trafford by train or taxi.

Can I buy tickets off a ticket tout?

No. The unauthorised selling of football tickets is a specific crime.

That has never stopped touts hanging around stadiums selling tickets at inflated prices.

The sight has been on the decrease in recent years with the advent of electronic tickets.

However fans are still warned they may be refused entry if they are found with a ticket illegally sold.

Many third party websites also offer United tickets for sale but the club say: “When searching for tickets for games at Old Trafford, please be wary of unofficial websites which may not deliver valid tickets for games.”

Do babies and young children need tickets?

Yes.

The club say: “Every supporter needs a ticket to access the stadium, regardless of their age. It is not advisable to bring a young baby to a game as it can be very noisy, but if you do, we suggest that you provide them with ear protectors.”

Can I use my friends season ticket if they can’t make the game?

Yes.

The club’s terms and conditions state: “For each home match, a ticket holder shall (on a match by match basis) be entitled to lend their season ticket to a friend or a member of their family.”

However it can only be lent free of charge, it can’t be listed for sale and no money can change hands.

They must be United fans and any breaking of rules or misbehaviour by the friend or family member will be considered to have been committed by the ticket holder themselves and could see the ticket suspended or cancelled.

If it is a concessionary season ticket, ie. a junior or OAP, and a full-paying adult wants to use it, they must contact the ticket office to ‘upgrade’ the ticket and pay the price difference.

Away supporters must purchase tickets for the away section from their own club.

Can I buy tickets for Manchester United away games?

Due to the high demand, away tickets are only sold to season ticket holders who have purchased all cup tickets and to executive club members.

New season ticket holders must have had their season ticket for three seasons before they can apply.

There is a ‘loyalty pot’ consisting of fans who have applied for every away game since the 2001-02 season. They are said to have around an 85 per cent chance of securing tickets.

The remainder of the allocation is put to a ballot with applications, which are always usually over subscribed, taken usually around a month before games.

The passing on of away tickets by season ticket holders is not allowed with tougher rules now in place around this.

How do I buy a Manchester United season ticket?

The club currently operates a waiting list for people wanting to buy a season ticket.

When one becomes available priority is given to members who have paid a deposit.
